clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Well a few months back after I installed my clone my clutch started spinning on crank. After pulling everything out I realized that on install I didn't tighten the bolt with the air wrench. ( too many beers at build time ) So I cleaned everything up and put it all back together. Worked great for a little while. Went to move the cart the other day and the freaking clutch is spinning on crank AGAIN. The bolt is tight. Has anybody had this problem or is it just my luck. I might order another clutch adapter. I know last time it was spinning there was metal shavings when I cleaned it up. Maybe with it spinning it has ground everything down a little. Please I need some help or a fix for sure.

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Did you cut the crank correctly? No more than an 1/8 inch after the adapter?

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Its a 16hp clone Durmax, It is also the stock clutch off my club car carryall. Last time this happened we did discuss the picture of the crank being cut and it looks like the pic. I'm really happy with the motor but I'm about to just call Geoff and order his bad-a$$ clone. I will be pulling everything out again real soon and will post some pics probally tomorrow.

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Before you give up on it... try pulling the clutch off and cleaning it really well, then hitting it with scotchbrite or another similar abrasive pad that will scuff the surface.
Ive had this issue when the clutch taper surface was really dirty or contaminated, or when the shaft is too long. Once they spin, the adapter is usually garbage and the crank might need some TLC. |

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Mine spun on me after working well for a month or so. I took it apart and did what Geoff suggested, cleaned with carb cleaner and scuffed it up really good, and cleaned it again. Make sure you do this to the crank, both sides of the adapter, and the inside of the clutch hub. I also discovered that the hub on the clutch was hitting the crankcase. So in my case it was the adapter was not touching the spacer. So also make sure the spacer is bottomed out on the adapter, then tighten down with an impact.

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
A little Loctite wouldn't hurt either between the adapter and the crank, especially if everything looks good.I would measure the adapter and the crank if the adapter is loose. We have one here, and it slides on nice, with slight interference. If tis' loose,it won't squeeze down properly and hold the taper-fit,or the crank itself.Hope this helps.

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Well I didn't work on cart today, I worked on redneck lift in the garage. My I-beam is at 8 foot off floor. Well anyway just check pics. I figured if I'm going to be pulling motor out of cart every few weeks I might as well make it user friendly. The cart in the pics is my new project cart, got the 6" lift on front but not back. This lift might make it a little easier

Re: clutch spinning on clones crank. AGAIN
Cool idea. I wouldn't rely on that winch to hold the cart there. I've seen them let go suddenly. Wouldn't be good.
