key switch g1 wiring
i have a 79-81 j10 yamaha g1 a buddy gave me. it has everything but the key and engine. i have been searching and looking over the wiring diagrams to figure out how to tie in a key switch i have sitting around so the starter gen only spins backwards to use to start my clone from the old pull start side. i am thinking i can just remove all the wires associated with the forward parts but need to unpin the old wires from the old ignition switch and tie them into the new one. just looking for some input an what wires to use. thanks

Re: key switch g1 wiring
The G1 uses one solenoid and one ignition to run one way, as the ignition is dual with advance in each direction. Seems like you just need one solenoid to run in the direction you want, then put a bosch relay on to kill the clone ignition when the gen is off. IIRC the clutches turn the same direction as the rear tire on a G1. All you need is a switch to turn the power on/off to the solenoid, and the pedal switch inline if you want it to stop with the pedal. May have to hook the VR into that I'd have to look. You could also use a constant duty relay, they use certain ones to replace G9 relays that run the gen.
