down hill stall
OK guys, newest issue, Predator 420, vegas carts carb, going down STEEP incline about 400 yards, the engine wants to cut out. I'm not sure how the float is set up and if it's shutting the gas off or flooding. As soon as I hit level it fires right back up. No problem up hill! Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: down hill stall
Yes, the oil sensor has been completely removed, but thanks fisher, the motor sits flat when the cart is flat. Don't know what can be happening?

Re: down hill stall
Are you using a vacuum pump? My clone powered Marathon won't stay running if I drive it very far with the passenger side higher than the driver's side. Discovered that problem while running along a fence line on the edge of a cornfield where the right side of the cart was about 8" higher than the left for a couple hundred yards. I'm using the stock EZGO gas tank (mounted on the front left) and the original pulse pump and the tilt was just enough extra work for the pump that the fuel flow to the carb stopped. I don't know if it can also happen driving frontwards down a steep hill but if your engine is mounted back close to the transaxle and the gas tank is close to the front of the engine bay you might have the same problem.

Re: down hill stall
Thanks Army, I am using original fuel pump (vacuum) and my tank is on passenger side with a fuel return line back to tank. I am using clear line so I may try to remove the seat and see what's happening! Hope my plank of wood doesn't slide out and burn my a@/

Re: down hill stall
Has there ever been a cart project that didn't involve a plank of wood at some point?

Re: down hill stall
@ Army, for sure, I was asking a few guys this issue and a farmer had a problem as such with a tractor, he went with a low psi electric pump, and considering I have the return line it shouldn't over power the seat of the floats, my question to you (Army) how did you resolve the problem? My first step today is my plank! I will let ya know what I find.
Thanks |

Re: down hill stall
I didn't resolve it. Not yet anyway. I usually run my cart on flat ground around the fields or down the side of the road between our farms so I haven't worried about it. I actually had a 12V low pressure pump and a 1-3 PSI Edelbrock regulator on the cart to begin with. It seriously overwhelmed the stock carb though so I installed a bypass line back to the tank but the needle/seat still couldn't handle the flow. So I took that stuff all off and installed the stock EZGO pulse pump. Other than the fuel starvation issue when the right side is significantly higher than the left, it's actually been working very well.
