Clutch tuning
I ready to throw my hands in the air ... I have a duromax turning 5500 rpm ..a stock clutch that tom at cpp machined for speed ...have the heavy duty erlandson ribbed belt ..have the proper distance between the engine and tranny and the belt will not run all the way up to the top of the clutch (lacks about 1/2 inch) ..took the power spring out of the driven clutch (picked up 2-3 mph) with 18 inch tires per gps only can get 21 mph out of it ...any suggestions ?????

Re: Clutch tuning
The best advise is just to call Tom in the morning, he is really knowledgeable. Until then, you could remove the belt and push your clutch in by hand to see if it travels far enough to squeeze the belt to the desired height. That belt is really good btw, they use that on the 100hp polaris. It may be just as simple as the right driven spring, there are lots of sizes.

Re: Clutch tuning
When your cart is not running, how much slack is in the drive belt. If it's really loose and floppy, you'll need to adjust the engine to take the slack out, you'll gain 5-8 mph from the slack. If there's no slack, check the internals on your primary and see if there's anything binding.

Re: Clutch tuning
I have an 87 Club Car with comet clutch and i top out around 21 mph as well. which looks to be about right if you put in the numbers on this speed calculator here as i think stock gear ration is 12:1: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/speed-calculator.php. The cart does have plenty of torque however. I just wish I could get a little more top end without pushing the motor so hard. I'm guessing to achieve this we would need high speed gears.

Re: Clutch tuning
I would turn the trans shaft and count the turns (cart jacked up) and verify you have the gearing you think. Then I'd tear into that clutch and see what it was doing, make sure the clutch was built for size belt you are using first. If your width is off it will not work right.
