Default VC 460cc should not idle

What could be causing the VC 460 to idle with pedal start and adjustment screw backed completely out. Replaced carb gasket after tightening twice didn't stop leak. The idling happens randomly after 1-6 miles. Stock VC 460, 6:1gears,10" whl, 21" ti, limo. 6 hours breaking.

Because you are not killing the ignition? Likely the carb is not shutting all the way for some reason, but if it ever sticks you will be in for a ride because you can't shut it off. I put a relay on mine to kill it when the pedal is lifted, just like stock does. I like it set to idle so I can hold the pedal on and idle it, plus it tends to start faster and not pop when you slow down, though you still have to adjust the carb to get rid of that.

Thanks! I'm relieved to get my first reply. What about a different or better quality carburetor to stop idle problem and the popping?

You just need to richen the idle, mine did the same thing actually both clones I did were the same. The idle screw is on the side of carb next to the intake spacer, they usually break the head off or put a metal plug over it. Remove the plug (with a drill maybe) or use a solder iron on the broken off type to loosen the loctite after you cut a slot in it with a dremel wheel or similar to remove. Turn that out it might work but often the jet is too small so take the jet out and enlarge a little. The jet you take the idle speed screw out the top of carb and pull that plastic plug out under it, the idle jet is in that plug thingy. Its really tiny, don't make it big. I put a wire through it and just worked it around for a while and it made it larger. That will give the jet screw more adjustment. You can buy screws on ebay or kits with them, pretty cheap. Richer idle will start faster and not pop when you slow down. Also allow fine tuning to get you a slower idle if you need that, mine is so slow it will shift gears running with a stock G9 clutch.

9 out of 10 times its an air leak before the carburetor... Check you pulse lines and fuel pump.

I get calls on this daily and its literally the most frustrating thing about having a pulse fuel pump.
