Default Electric to gas clone questions

Hey guys. New to the forum. I picked up a 2009 tomberlin emerge last fall. It had been stolen and crashed. Cracked body parts, no batteries, and no dash or switches. I loved all the dot stuff on the cart. Great brakes and suspension. I wanted to go gas clone right away but the onboard charger and controller and motor looked great. So I fixed the body and fabbed a dash and a little bed/seat from pvc sheet. It's ran great all summer but I'm ready for something new. The salvage title probably hurts selling it whole so I've found a buyer for the 48v system. I'd like to hear your opinions on the best engine/clutches/rear end to go with. I just want a nice dependable 25mph setup. If this is the wrong place to post let me know and I'll move it. Pics of what I did this winter to come. Thanks,J.D.

You would need a rear from a 4 cycle ezgo or yamaha, though depends on your tire diameter. You would get an easy 30mph with a yamaha and 22 tires with a stock engine and no governor. HD springs and advance key in the clone would help that, and cheaply too. Or you can use HS gears though they used to run 300 a set, that will give you lifted speeds with no lift. A surplus place also used to have rears. You need a clutch setup also.

Sho's right. If you don't get a new rear axle then you won't have reverse. Unless you use a motorcycle engine/transmission. There's another section on this forum for motorcycle engine conversions.

25mph is pretty easy to achieve on flat pavement. 25mph on a 30 degree uphill slope is a different story...

Vegas carts has a 460cc engine that a lot of people are using in their carts, plus it has a pile of upgrade parts already included. http://www.vegascarts.com/product-p/vrx46-diy.htm

You will want to consider some other things as well, like fuel tank and delivery. Starting/Charging. How loud you want the exhaust to be. You'll need the Drive and Driven sides of the clutch too. That, along with an engine cradle you either build or buy and a whole host of little whatnot parts.

But, it'll be worth it when you're done! You can spend as much or as little as you want in this process. Just depends on your wants, talent and timeline. I get 23mph on my little cart with a 200cc motor, but I am on flat pavement and when I add 2 more full sized passengers it takes a while to get there. Most people on the forum opt for an engine in tghe 420 to 460cc range. To tell the truth, the only reason I went 200cc is I found an insanely cheap deal on it.

Good luck!
