Default 32mm Carb?

I'm ready to upgrade the carb on my VC440. What is everyone using? Geoff said to use the Suzuki Z400 carb, but they are pretty pricey, what's my options? I've seen some "chinese go kart" carbs for like $50 or less, are they worth it? What am I looking for as far as features?

Thanks

I just ordered a Mikuni 32mm last night and got the manifold adaptor from Geoff. Lokking aroound on Affordablegokarts.com, they look pretty easy to tune.

Turbo, what jetting are you using with that mikuni? I too have a mikuni but can't get it to run like I want. Best top end I got is 27mph when i first installed everything, now the best i get is 25mph after a year of use. I was hoping for low 30's when I did the engine swap. At wide open throttle it falls on its face them picks back up then stalls again. It's got great take off but top end is lacking. My buddy has a 6 seater yamaha with slight mods to the stock engine and we gps'd it at 32. He walks at from me and all he had done to his is a spring change and carb adjustment. I want more top speed of of mine.

Is it a Mikuni round slide carb? They are very easy to tune.

It is a round slide, haven't got it in yet. Going to be a few days before it is delivered. I know the needle has several settings, usually you start in the middle. What color is your plug after you run it with no time to idle?

I have that carb, yes it is a round slide. Just not sure what jetting I should use. I need to do another WOT run but last time I did it I ran it wide open for about 1/2 mile then while still at full speed killed it and brought it to a stop. The plug was dry and black. The problem with that carb is one installed there isn't much room for an air filter. I have a small k&n style filter on mine.

Yes it is amikuni round slide but I know nothing about tuning carbs. I installed the carb as it was right out the box. I did adjust the needle and change the jet but I don't remember what the number was but it didn't help, if anything it made things worse so I put it back to the original jetting and needle position and just let it ride. It runs fine at cruising speed but doesn't have the top end I was hoping for. That was last fall and haven't messed with it since. Just rode it. In fact I haven't been on here in awhile. Gotta get back into things.
