Default Broke down and ordered the Clutch from Vegas

Well, after debate and playing around and asking alot of questions to you guys, I finally broke down and ordered the clutch and starter pulley from Vegas Carts for my harbor freight 420. It is a VERY light clutch, compared to the one that came on the cart. That should allow it to spool up a little faster, which is nice. Now I just need to pull my old engine out and cut myself a mounting plate for the new motor.

So..any suggestions on the best mods to the throttle linkage assembly on top of the engine to make throttle response more linear and do away with the surge? I'm considering removing the governor, but not ready to do that yet. I'd like to pull the stock tank off the engine and just use Yamaha gas tank, any mods you might recommend? Pictures help me ALOT lol

13 hp electric start from Harbor Freight, i think its 420cc. I was wondering if i just unhooked the governor arm and bypassed it, can I leave it installed? Or do I NEED to crack open the case and remove it? I'd rather not open it if i don't need to right now, until I'm ready to do some serious mods.

I think the risk is that if you don't remove the internal governor parts they might come apart at high rpm and cause engine damage. Those parts really aren't designed to run at high rpm. The engine side case is not difficult to remove, I think it's 7 bolts on yours? The governor parts aren't difficult to remove either. So I'd recommend taking it out. Just not worth the risk.

If you want to do it correctly, crack the case and remove it, its a very easy job. Also make sure to upgrade your valve springs while you're at it.

Well, I guess after I get everything installed and functioning correctly, I'll pull it back out and do the modifications. Thanks for the help.

I agree pull the engine drain oil and set on its (recoil) end cover up overnight so the oil goes to the other side. That might save the gasket but they only recommend that on new engines to reuse. Make sure you blue loctite the bolts back in or they come out. The springs are cheap and work awesome, can do a timing key then also. If you want to I'd also cut the head a little and port it some, but you can do that any time.

However you can tweak the governor to hit 4K rpm for now it should be ok.

Kind of limited on the linkage with the governor working, but you can try a weak spring on the arm it may help it react slower if you get it in the right spot. Or move the current spring a little.

Just want to also show you guys what I was given from work today. I'm loading it on my trailer to take home tonight. It's a Taylor Dunn personnel trailer, and I got it for free. I was actually willing to bid on it, but the base manager asked around and just told me to make it go away. I can definitely do that.

Wow, the school bus version! Where is the steering wheel? 4 wheel steering? Anyway, should make a super cool cart! Check the build of that old limo ezgo on here that looks similar (ezgo iirc) it turned out awesome.

It's a trailer, no power source. It does have 4 wheel steering so it follows awesomely. My company uses them to haul passengers back to the terminal from the helicopters when they land. Got it loaded up on my utility trailer last night, ready for the trip back to Florida with me. It's huge, counting the tongue, it's 15 feet long. It'll be great for the family gatherings behind my Yamaha, and after I beat the dents out of the corners and paint it, will probably end up in the local parades occasionaly.
