Clutch Engaging Hard
I have finally given up on my 420 clone. It was great while it lasted, but I am tired of the constant work it needs (starter generator mounts I made broke the aluminum gas tank mount several times).
So I ordered and am waiting on the Vegas Carts 460 engine and install kit. When I did 420 motor I sent my clutches off and had machining and power spring added to them. When the cart was done it was very very jumpy and still is. It jerks hard and you can hear the driven clutch engage. I am wondering what is making it engage so hard. I was thinking the power spring possibly or maybe the driven clutch is just not working right? It jerks hard every time at start up (sometimes I can feather the throttle and it will take off easy ish). The cart once rolling performs well for 8" lift and 25" tires. Last time we had the GPS it ran 33 mph down a very slight hill. Since I am spending the money to do it right this time, and it is getting a new drive clutch. Should I go ahead and order a new driven clutch or just remove the power spring and put the old spring back in? Thanks for the help. I really am looking forward to not getting whiplash anytime I start the thing up lol! Thanks, Welderboy |

Re: Clutch Engaging Hard
Take the power spring out and try the stock spring, you won't need it with the VC460 anyway. If that resolves your issue, great.
If not, I'd be looking to the primary clutch. Engagement is the primary clutch's job, and if you get jerky starts, I'm betting it's there. How is the drive belt? Is there any slack or is it tight? |

Re: Clutch Engaging Hard
The drive belt is pretty tight. I would say it has approximately .5" or so of deflection when pushing down on it.

Re: Clutch Engaging Hard
That's perfect for the belt. You might be needing to check out the primary. What primary clutch are you running?

Re: Clutch Engaging Hard
My primary clutch is the stock 94 club car. It has been machined, but other than that its just the stock one that came on it. I am getting the Comet 780 clutch with the Vegas kit.
