Re: Need for speed
I'm guessing MPH. I think this is a boat, correct? That's pretty fast on the water.

Its mph on my cart. I put my boat project on hold. 50Mph in about a street block or quarter mile. It won't go much faster than that. 50 Is the fastest

Re: Need for speed
That's pretty fast. Do you have 8:1 gears in it already? I hope you have disc breaks in the front, that's some serious speed.
Do you have a build thread on your cart? |

Just rear mechanical disc brakes. My sprocket is 16 and axle sprocket is 70. Tire size in front are 15s and rear are 18s. How do u figure out the ratio? It takes a whole block to stop my cart going those speed

I don't know yet. My tach gauge is being shipped as we speak. I have one more question to ask. On someone's old post, I've read that if the kill wire is on ground too long it will fry the magneto on a gx440. Is this a myth or am i safe to hook it up to a key start. When key start is on off doesn't it stay on ground?

Re: Need for speed
Ground makes the mag coil not work, on a key (or kill switch) they are grounded until they are run again....so that could be a lot of hours lol. They must be blowing up all over the world then...
Problem is you need the right key to do it, a key for a magneto will ground the 'run' wire when off and not connect it when on. An outboard boat key iirc works this way, a B&S small engine lawn key works this way and it what most use. Anything with a powered ignition like a 12v car coil/CDI/or points type setup will power the run wire with 12v, that will blow up your mag coil quickly. With a ground-to-kill mag key switch, you may have to ground the key switch itself as some ground through the housing and do not have a ground wire (that needs to be hooked to the engine block eventually to ground the coil out). Its an issue if you mount in plastic for example or the engine is not grounded to the frame. On the other hand I used a relay to convert my yamaha GC 12v ignition to kill the clone engine I put in it. I hooked the relay to the 12v coil power of the old wiring, then had the relay kill the engine to ground all the time...unless I turned the cart on by hitting the pedal to start/run it. Then the relay would disconnect that wire. Need a 5 pin bosch relay to do that. It works great with the stock generator pedal start otherwise I had no way to turn it off. |
