Default 2008 Eagle P4 LAD Confusion

Bit of confusion regarding the Linear Accelerator Device on my 2008 Eagle. When I started the conversion to an Alltrax controller I downloaded all the service and parts manuals for the P-4 to ensure I bought the correct controller and all the manuals said I have a 0-5K pot for speed control. Drawings suggest it's a 2 wire pot with a high pedal disable switch. Now that it's in the shop I've been told that the info from Columbia (based on my VIN) is that it's a 3.5 to 0 volt LAD which is not comparable with an Alltrax controller so the fix seems to be replacing the LAD with an differant model that is resistance based.

Any clarification of what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

VIN is P4SF45YGO230

The old pot box tended to fail from age, so the newer LAD that was introduced in 2007 took care of that. Page 5-2 of the manual from the EV Tech link shows how the LAD is connected to that harness.

It's not a show stopper for you, just an re-route.

You could easily switch it over to a pot box again though, it's all just about the linkage. There is an adaptor wire for installing the potbox into the LAD style harness.

Yep saw that 4 wire pot box but it's tough to pick up which wire does what. Is this indeed a 0-5K box or ???. The service manual page 4-14 shows the troubleshooting of 0-5K on the bck and wht leads which lead me to believe I could use it as a 0-5K 2 wire LAD. Page 5-15 of the parts manual also seemed to support that I could use the blk and wht for that purpose.

If were to make a guess, lead 1 (blk) is B+ to both the pot and pedal switch (NO?), lead 2 (White) is the wiper, and lead 3 is pedal switch out.

Or, am I off in left field and this is not a 0-5K pot box but an LAD that just supplies a 3.5 to 0 V signal.

The Alltrax does support both 3 wire or 2 wire 0-5 K LAD signals.

Thanks again for you help,

The LAD isnt a potentiometer. Its inductive. The wiring harness adaptor wouldntakencare of the wiring issue.

OK, now I'v got it. Just got hung up with the trouble shooting info in the manual.

Guess there is no good option but to replace the new inductive LAD with a pot.
Is there any chance the LAD can be adjusted to provide the 5.0-0 V which is acceptable to the controller.

If you were doing the controller conversion....what would you do. And what pot would be the best choice for replacement?
