Default Pack voltage high while charging

I am not having any issues, but came across something that seemed 'odd' to me. I have two carts: 2000 Par Car with 8 T105s and a 2002 Club car with 8 T105s.

For kicks I took the voltage of the pack of my Par Car while charging and it was 64.3. I thought WOW, that seems high.

Did the same to my Club Car which was also charging and that number was less than 53.

As I learn about this stuff I wonder if this is normal or if the Par Car is getting too much juice, or something else...

After they are charged and sit overnight, they both come back to 52ish....

Thanks

Any battery gets charged at a higher than stated voltage. It's how it works. As for your differences between carts, could be the chargers, cables, contacts, or batteries themselves. Unless the cases are getting warm, I wouldn't sweat it. Although, the 64 volt reading sounds VERY high for a 48v pack......

Ferro-resonant chargers have a finishing rate of just slightly less than 3v per cell and in the case of a 48v system that would be around 60v. Your meter may not be right either. The 53v for the club car sounds like it was at the beginning of the charge cycle, near the end it should be similar to the ParCar at around 60v.

My 48 volt CC Precedent reads up to 63.8 volts during the charging cycle while its equalizing the batteries, (I believe the number is supposed to be around 62 volts.) Each of your chargers can be at different stages of the charging cycle, reflecting the difference in voltages you see.

AJ, some have lower voltage and higher current, and others are higher voltage at lower current, like Scubabud said, just depends on where in the charging cycle they are. Another thing to check if you have time and interest, is the sg of each cell in both pack batteries, as a lower cell can force the charger to kick in higher in an effort to bring up the weak cell.

Thanks All.

I checked the CC later in the charge and it too was greater than 63V.

Just one more thing I never knew before, but do now
