Anybody raised the seat up on their cart???
I am trying to figure out a cleaner way of lifting each cart seat probably between 5-7 inches or so.
On my other cart I simply built a 2x4 frame and painted it black to match the cart and it sat snugly on the cart seat frame. I wanted to go with a bit of a cleaner look since this cart is brand new and am planning on raising it slightly higher this time. Either by attaching to the frame of the cart itself or to the frame of the seat and attach the hinges to the modification. I was considering using some Aluminum Square Tubing by stacking them and doing a sort of framing square/rectangle and then plastic capping the visible ends. Along with matching paint of course. Just wanted to see if anyone has done something similar or has a better/cleaner idea. I am 6 foot 7 so I definitely need the leg/knee room. Pictures are always welcome with ideas:-) |

Have a metal shop bend a "C" the height you want then weld it into a box and paint it. Not much weight that way. Could even use aluminum diamond plate.

Re: Anybody raised the seat up on their cart???
Just picked up the cart from paint.
All gloss except the top (flat part) of the fist row section. They left it (just the 2 inch flat part) matte cause they assumed the seat wood be sitting on it and concealing it. I told em I was raising the seat and it might be an issue. Ran a couple aluminum square over it and since the corners of the body is rounded you will be able to see about 1/4" to 1/2" of that matte black. I don't know how picky I am but I am thinkin bout taking the midsection back to have em correct. Other than that paint came out nice. Said somethin bout 2 weeks to buff it or something. |

Well, you're a full inch taller than me. I've never had any problem with leg or knee room. If I raised the seat 5", there would definitely be a head room issue, though.

Re: Anybody raised the seat up on their cart???
Then you must have really short legs....cause I feel like the guy who got stuck at the kids table at Thanskgiving when I sit in any golf cart.hahaha
Just the way it over-bends my knees hurts my legs/knees and back especially. The roof is really concave upward. I don't know if the pic does it justice. I stacked a few telephone books to test it first and still had room to spare. But I do think I am sticking with only 4" to raise it. The wife is much shorter and need to consider that an all else who will ride on in it too. Was thinking aluminum tubing but wanted something cheaper besides wood that would work and last.... |

Re: Anybody raised the seat up on their cart???
Were I to wish a modification such as this, I would use another pair of desk chairs like I have now and mount them on scissor platforms with a threaded crank or air cylinder to raise or lower depending upon operator comfort. I wouldn't waste all that effort of building up the frame. It's kinda the long way around, and if not easily reversible, will make the cart impossible to sell.

Re: Anybody raised the seat up on their cart???
You know what? On second thought, an even easier way to accomplish this would be to mount those desk chairs to your bottom board with threaded rod. If you put nuts on both sides of the board, a combination wrench would change height preference in minutes without all the fab work involved in building the scissor platforms.
