Tips on Paintin over brand New Powder Coated brush guard
Should I sand and prime or just take a scotch pad to it and then prime?
I feel like its already so clean just needs a lil roughing up with scotch pad then prime paint and seal |

Re: Tips on Paintin over brand New Powder Coated brush guard
My experience is if your cart will be exposed to the elements on a regular basis powder coating will not hold up. It's almost like a porcelain shell. Eventually it cracks in edge spots and moisture gets underneath and the metal rusts from under the coating. Eventually it gets bad enough the powder coating flakes off. A good example is powder coated trailer wheels. After just a few years of exposure they almost always rust & the coating flakes off.
You can certainly sand and paint over but IF your cart will see outside elements on a regular basis I would recommend blasting to bare metal, then epoxy primer and paint. |

I mean its stored inside. So it would only see the elements while driving.
I just thought since it was brand new. A little roughening up and it would "seal" it a bit more and wouldn't have to really worry bout rust like your talkin. More worried bout paint adhering ok. |

If it's brand new you should be good just scuffing it up with a scotch bright and painting it. The paint shouldn't flake off as long as you get good adhesion and there isn't any shiny spots. You could even use some of that spray adhesion promoter and that will help out a ton too. Since it's powder coated and your gonna paint it you shouldn't have to worry about rust at all!

Re: Tips on Paintin over brand New Powder Coated brush guard
I didn't care for my black powder coated brush guard, it looked kinda' "Blah"!
I originally wanted to get it chromed, but, for $500, and no guarantee that the chrome would stick? kinda' put the Kabash on the idea! I did a light scratch/sand (400 grit), primed 2 coats, and shot 2 coats of rattle can "Bumper Chrome", THEN... (not knowing) I shot it with 2 coats of clear... it lost it's chrome shine, but the Aluminum color fit my cart pretty well! 7 years... no rust, and no chips!
