Golf Cart Hitch + Extension + 6" Drop-Down Reciever For Step= SAFE Or TROUBLE?
Now that the lift kit is on I have the Factory Rear Seat Kit back on the cart.
I want to make a "hitch-type" step because it (rear platform) is about 22" off the ground. I am looking at a golf cart hitch receiver to bolt to the cart frame...and they have a receiver extension that comes in 12" and 18"...then a drop/riser receiver that will lower it 4" to 6" and then a hitch step. So 4 separate receivers basically bolted together. The frame is a good 24" away from the end part of the rear platform that's why all the extensions. All the tongue weights are rated at 400 to 600 lbs...But it seems like it would be greatly reduced by all these extensions....and needless to say flimsy. Has anyone with similar issues made a step with receivers or similar means? Pictures would be nice:-) |

The mere fact that you are asking the question indicates you know that it isn't a good idea. I certainly wouldn't do it.

I made my own .but its not a step hitch its just a hitch ball
might not can tell but I have a pipe and another pipe slides in side of it and I just drilled a hole through the back deck through the pipe and I just welded the ball to the smaller pipe . |

Yea I realize its not a "good" idea. Kinda why I was asking for suggestions here.
But yea I need to make a step up for all the short people that will ride on the cart. So hopefully i'll get a lill more input:-) |

My 2 cents...
If your only gonna use it as a "step" and not to actually pull a trailer, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. One person at a time stepping on it, maybe up to 200-300Lbs(that's a large person) max at a time? Should be plenty strong to do that. Now, OTH, I wouldn't use it to pull. |

Put a 2" reciever on it and use one of those hitch haulers as a step/ footrest.

As a step, the extensions are fine. For towing, not good.My wifes G16 towed my 16' landscape trailer easily, and hardly dropped with the tongue-weight.After the rear-seat and hitch-extension,it crushed the rear suspension, almost pulled the front wheels off the ground too.The difference in tongue-weight transfer was huge.I just use the front-hitch now instead.

Heres a picture before I stripped her down for paint and lift kit. You can see the rear grab bar and foot platform. It looks/feels like solid steel and there are small (1") spot welds every so often all the way around and then the mat is just riveted to the square support tubing.
I considered attaching one of the bolt undermount receiver hitches but I don't want bolts sticking up through it. Paint dude...I actually ordered a crane hook and clevis shackle a couple weeks ago thinking I will paint to match the cart.hahaha |

If you want a HOOK go check out Monster Hook.com It makes the those look small. I am at work so I cant post a picture. I have one left over from my mud truck.
