Default Yamaha drive long travel

I would like to build a long travel lift for my 2011 gas drive. I'm going to start taking the entire cart apart. I know that this will save some money but I am more intreasted in the ride and will be putting 26 tires on it when complete. I do not think a jakes will clear those or offer the clearence I would like. I was wondering g if anyone has built one I could look at to get some ideas. I can weld and fabricate but it would be nice if I can sort out some of the mess I have going on in my head lol. Thanks

Just a suggestion.......... Don't start taking the cart apart until you have the LTK your planning to build all figured out.

There is a lot involved in designing a front end from scratch and there are plenty of things you could do wrong as well as right.

Do a lot of research before starting and enjoy the cart while your doing this.

Good luck on your build.......... I actually have thought several times about building my own and have still not got one started.

I would use some atv parts to start with. You can find entire front ends on ebay for less than $200. This would eliminate a lot of engineering and would ensure that you have parts that will hold up. If you got an a arm suspension from a full size sport atv that will work. You can build the frame to mount the parts to, that way you can control the amount of lift you need. Use shocks from a utv.

I'm glad to see someone else is going to build their own too. First of the month, I'm tearing mine down. I'm going to build a long travel setup. With it torn down, there won't be anything in the way and I can also clean everything up. I'm using 1" DOM tubing for the arms, square tubing for the frame. I found heim joints for the arm ends, for attaching to spindles and to frame. I have a couple different shocks to see which are going to work. I'm going to follow your thread and see what I can learn!

Well I finished the front long travel works really. Well and steers awsome. I am now having the issue when I put people on the back 100_ 250 lbs the cart wonders all over the road I understand if I put heavier spring rate shocks in the back it will cure this problem. The thing is I don't want to sacrifice the ride in fact I am evan building a custom 3 link for the rear but this will all be a waist of time with heavy shocks and no one sitting back there. I was thinking nitrogen shocks that I could run low psi when no one is riding back there. The front works so well I would like the rear to do the same I know with a solid axle and not IRS that will be hard to achieve. Any advice thanks.
