Need custom hinge idea for custom build
Im doing a project and need to come up with a hinge idea. I need it to pop upwards then back and then flip back lol. Kind of like the blue cars rear end. But it cant just flip back cause ot hits the side of the car/cart. So like I said needs to pop up vertically then back and then flip up lol.

Re: Need custom hinge idea for custom build
You'll have to make or find a slider type hinge that will work. Cutting the back at an angle toward the middle of the wheel well would have been a better idea, although a little late to do that now, unless you feel like doing more body work.
Nice looking wheels! |

Re: Need custom hinge idea for custom build
You need to drop the center of the pivot point of the hinge. Look at the cobra hinge point. So you need to mount the body to the rear frame work, then make that whole part hinge.

May have to build a new sub-frame to mount it to. But he lower the point the better.

Re: Need custom hinge idea for custom build
Thanks! I just got them last night. I guess i didnt think about angling it. That woulda made more sence.
As for redoing ghe back pivet. What about something like this? But would that weaken the full back of the carts support? Or should I run a bar all the way across the bottom? |

Re: Need custom hinge idea for custom build
That would work to. The only thing with it sliding is the back curved part of the frame is a snug fit so it cant slide around it. But i maybe have just thought of an idea. What if i used just a hair smalled square tubing and put it inside the bigger square tubing? and used that as the sliding mechinisum?

That could work depending on how much play you have between the tubing sizes

Re: Need custom hinge idea for custom build
Why re-invent the wheel? I've seen drawer glides rated for 150#. I'd mount one on each rail with a hinge on the back end of each one. The body would slide straight back until it cleared, then pivot.

I would 2nd the drawer slides, but more importantly, when you figure it out that is going to be an awesome ride!
