Bent roof repair ideas
Picked this extended roof out of the trash pile at a rental place. The outside frame is bent down at the back bolt hole on both sides. Plastic is near perfect except for one spot about a 1/4" long where it was too much bind.
Any ideas on how to straighten this thing up? You can see how much bend it has where I have it strapped on top of my original top. I need to figure out some rear struts but this thing is bent in just the wrong place. |

Re: Bent roof repair ideas
Can you get a couple of pictures (one of the bend from the inside and one of the bend from the outside)? I've never had to do this yet but have a couple of ideas.

Re: Bent roof repair ideas
The quick and dirty answer would be to take to an auto body shop. They have the equipment get it done in half an hour (might have to pay for an hour min.). One of the guys may be willing to do it off hours for some easy under the table cash.
Doing it yourself depends a lot on what you have available to work with. If it was my project it would involve a sheet of 3/4" plywood, 2-2x6s, 2-2x4s, a 4x4, 6 C-clamps and a High-Lift Jack (mostly because I have all that on hand). 2 things are a given regardless of how it's done- 1)- It's going to be easier to do if the metal is separate from the plastic roof 2)- The repair is always going to be a weak spot and will need to be reinforced . |
