Club Car body adhesive help??
I need to glue some metal brackets to my CC DS body. It is the ArmorFlex material. I roughed up the surface and used a 2 part epoxy but it would not stick. Is the ArmorFlex a polycarbonate? If you have used an adhesive that has worked on this material please let me know what you used. Thanks in advance.

Re: Club Car body adhesive help??
Not saying this to argue, and I know it does not answer the question but do you have to glue it on? is there any way you can drill holes and use something like rivets to hold it on. Just seems sketchy to use glue or something to hold metal to the plastic, unless its small pieces of metal...I don't know just asking. Also, it would be good to know what the brackets are for and where you want to put them, also because I'm just curious. Just because you know, with glue or epoxy, who knows how long you can trust it

Quote:
your right, its injected molded polymer "polycarbonate" and your right, adhesion is tough with this type of material, especially when repainting because it has so much flex |

Shoe Goo!
The stuff is amazing! I use it for ALL mismatched "surface mount" applications, plastic to metal, glass to metal, plastic to leather... I've even used it on wood to plastic! I've never tried it on my cart, but it would be the first thing I'd use if I needed too! |

Common silicone caulk works good sometimes also.

Re: Club Car body adhesive help??
The plastic fairing/cowlings etc on motorcycles can be a bear to get any real adhesion or bonding too... I've read of ABS Plastic Pipe Cement (NOT PVC) working as well as taking scraps of the plastic and mixing with Acetone and/or MEK till it melts and forms a goo. This goo when applied to the body panels will start to soften and then the entire mess will re-harden as one...

I'd try lacquer based contact cement or urethane panel adhesive, but more importantly, test on the cut-out scraps first.

Scuff it up with 80 grit sand paper, use a wax and grease remover to clean it, then use PL adhesive from loctite, their premium will do the trick

Re: Club Car body adhesive help??
Well its been awhile but I finally got back to this taillight problem. I went by the hardware and found some 10-32 nuts that are used in furniture. Since the body is almost 1/4 inch thick I experimented with heating them with a propane torch and melting into the the body. It worked like a champ. I then made some metal retainers to keep the lights in place. I am also going to use some silicone adhesive around the taillight flange. Between the silicone and the retainers I think I'm set.
