Club Car DS Dash
I just picked up a dash on OfferUp but it’s that wood grain and I need to paint it. I’m thinking that plastic may chip pretty easy. I was gonna try and wrap it it that vinyl stuff from eBay. Any thoughts???

I'd wrap it.

Not up on this vinyl wrap stuff, but it is not cheap to paint plastic properly. I have had good luck with SEM's Trim Black. Comes in semigloss or gloss. Requires adhesion promoter but stays flexible when dry, no flaking or chipping so far.

Heck of a deal there.
I suggested wrapping vs the prep, work time and longevity of paint holding up. |

Re: Club Car DS Dash
I'd still sand/scuff and use adhesion Promoter with a Wrap - most places that will sell quality wrap also sell the little 3M applicator bottles of it and recommend You use it on inside corners and edges, etc - but You can grab a pint for around $10 and apply it to the entire surface after sanding or scuffing, it will make that wrap stick like crazy.
THAT said, it's a dash - it will get a lot of handling, splashes, the occasional foot, etc - so a wrap likely won't hold up unless the cart is a "Garage Queen" that never gets used by a Family, Drunk Buddies, etc ..... Which covers about exactly 0.000006% of Golf Carts (NOT a substantiated statistic and could vary, LOL). Paint, even crap rattle-can stuff WILL hold up *to an extent* if done correctly. Most dash units unfortunately already have sh*t laminate finishes so it can get tricky, but scuff lightly with a Scotchbrite til the "shiny" is gone, wipe down 2X with a clean rag and isopropyl alcohol (Dollar General stuff will do) then Adhesion Promoter, and 3-4 good coats with appropriate drying time of a decent paint/primer designed for Plastic. Maybe a Matte Clear, that's up to You but it's a dash and that $5 can will get 3 good coats, which helps. OR, going back - wrap it. Just prep appropriately, and grab an old 3/8" ratchet at a rummage sale or ??? along with some velcro so it doesn't rattle around in the carts' cubbies. Apply liberally to the idiots who spill, scuff, kick, or touch the dash in increments as appropriate (IE, Thigh, Kneecap, Solar Plexus, then Forehead *some modicum of control expected and required*) and You'll be fine. If the dash is clean, personally I'd just figure out a way to use it "As-is" because even the cheezy flexible ones have a lot more resilience to finish, etc if treated correctly. Nail-Polish on every edge keeps moisture out, that's going to be the biggest factor under your paint or wrap either way. |

Re: Club Car DS Dash
not sure of the exact look you are going for but that hydrodipping/water transfer printing process is pretty cool if you have a place near by. Would make a seamless finish and would be uniform all around.

Re: Club Car DS Dash
I didn’t even think about that. I just figured the wrap would hold up a little better that rattle can paint on the plastic. Guess we will see soon enough

Re: Club Car DS Dash
Well I’ll never try and wrap anything again, well at least alone. I ended up spraying the dash
