Default S-T-R-E-T-C-H possible on my trailer? I'd appreciate your input!

In my search for a trailer, I ran across this charming fella. I think he's so quaint. He's priced at $550. If I can add what I need for a bit more, I'll be very happy.

I'm buying an older Club DS. The gentleman measured it at 44" wide, as I recall.

How can we stretch this platform to haul my cart? Ideally, I'd like to bolt on (rather than weld) the extra pcs so I'd have a smaller storage footprint if I disassembled it.

As long as the wheels are centered on this axle, am I safe? Do I add more to the front to gain tongue weight?

I am willing to use these tracks or save them for my next Cartahoarder project. Ha!

I'll be speaking with the seller in the a.m.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Are you near a Tractor Supply?

I think the trailer Millertime would be a safer setup with the sides and easier to load with the built on loading ramp. Also bolting together a trailer frame is a no-no. Cheap trailer frames that are assembled out of a box have a tendency to twist and Dog Walk -- this will eat the tires off in a short time. I have a boat trailer I got for free cause it was destroying the tires. I backed it into a tree to knock the twist out of the frame -- then I welded the corners and put gussets in each.
That's not a bad price for the motorcycle hauler but stretching it with bolt together parts will be a disappointment in the long run. If your heart is set on the bike trailer at least weld the stretched frame. For the extra money your work is done and its a better trailer in the long run. Also there would be less liability issues if there was a serious encounter.

Storable trailers are for carrying plywood and 2x4s home from the lumber yard. It is a nice concept but not for a sizable load like a golf cart. The trailer in the link is a much better choice. I prefer normal ramps or a folding alum ramp over the mesh tailgates but that is just me.

A golf cart is tail heavy so make sure the rear wheels can be placed close behind or over the trailer axle. Or that you are capable of backing the cart onto the trailer. If you have a utility bed or rear seat a mesh tailgate may interfere unless you can back the cart onto the trailer, and the rear will clear over the front wall /rails of the trailer.

Trailer storage for urban dwellers can be an issue but you need the right trailer first. Then solve the storage issue. You are bound to have one country redneck friend like me who lives on an acreage where you could store it. If not, make friends with one. We are lots of fun and typically generous with an unused corner of the property. Fresh baked cookies or cold twelve pack delivered always sweetens the pot.

Shepard, what a thoughtful and intelligent response. Thank you.

I really like the look of the motorcycle trailer. It's charming and could be fun at an art event.

You are so right about not compromising safety, however, I'd never do that.

I so very appreciate your input. Thank you so much.

Rooster59, I count on your sage advice! Thank you for this.

I was wondering about the access to the trailer. It does need to be an easy one for me load. It's not as if I can just drive it up into a pickup truck. Ckl.

I do have a Jeep to tow this trailer or could get a pickup to bring it home initially.

Part of my dilemma is I'd like to be able to tow the trailer with the golf cart as well.

I read here a great line in a thread here-If you need to borrow something twice, you need to buy one! Ckl. Maybe I just need to see how much I'd truly need one.

Maybe my Tow Vehicle would suffice, Rooster59! Ckl Why not, it's going to be an "all-purpose" by the time we're done. Ckl

Well, your great advice is taken, fellas! I'll just have to put my design hat on to make it glam!

Thanks so much!

You could use a small electric winch to draw the cart backwards up into the trailer. You can walk along the side and see what your doing and turn the steering wheel from a ground position. Put a tire stop where you want the cart to stop -- piece of angle iron -- 6x6 piece of pressure treated -- keep the cable hooked up as a fail safe should the tie downs come loose.

A Jeep should be fine to tow a trailer and golf cart. My wife has towed our 12' trailer and golf cart to deer camp with her Jeep Liberty while I was towing our 16'er with tractor and implements with the F250. The 12' trailer can be towed with our golf cart. The little trailer you get can be towed with a cart too.

Access to your trailer can be arranged. You have enough charm to setup a good scenario. If not, storage lots wouldn't be too expensive. And UHaul will rent a small open trailer too.

Shepard, this is a reallly good idea. I have a winch like this on a sailboat so I do understand what you're saying here.

Anytime I can operate things slowly and smoothly is better for everyone around! Ckl

I found a trailer yesterday and am getting it looked at tomorrow. If that doesn't work, we're going with the Tractor Supply.

Thanks, Shepard. I appreciate the input.
