Tail-gate ; Rattle no more
Probably a lot of creative solutions for this, and after several years of bungee cords, ratchet straps, and such, I remembered something from my machinist days a long time ago - toggle clamps! These can be mounted on top, or under the edge on this particular box. Ours will stay up top, ‘ cause this is mama’s cart, and well, you know . . . They were less than $10 for two.

Re: Tail-gate ; Rattle no more

Even better! Planning ahead. If only the mass produced stuff had more of that.

jclark138 - Great idea ... I will look into these toggle clamps further. My tail gate not only rattles, it drops down when going over rough ground. Thanks for sharing |

Re: Tail-gate ; Rattle no more
The toggle clamps are a great idea. I picked up some with a smaller handle and a small spring loaded pin that locks them in place. Currently I am using the rubber strap with a ball at the end which fits in a claw shaped retainer. They work great but are a two handed affair for my wife to latch and unlatch. Her fingers aren't strong enough to do it easily. The toggle latches allow for perfect adjustment. Tight enough but not hard to operate.

Re: Tail-gate ; Rattle no more
This is the first time I’d used them on a moving vehicle. Mostly used bigger versions on tooling for manufacturing/production machining. Lots of different styles available.

Yes. I was a beautiful shot of my tailgate with a 100 pound redhead draped across it. Guess clothes are required. Here is one taken earlier. |

Re: Tail-gate ; Rattle no more
Dundee - Nice looking box you got there ... I like the tie down rail, tail gate stops and spring loaded tailgate pins ... very well done. I think that a Redhead might clash with you cart color ... a Brunette might be a better color combination with your paint job. That cart is looking a little too clean for a farm cart!
Rooster59 - Can you attach a link or photo of your toggle clamps with small spring loaded pins that lock them in place? I want to look at all options before I buy some and I was not able to find them with the spring loaded pins (probably not looking in the right place). Thanks for sharing! I too look foward to a rattle free tailgate ... that also stays closed! |

X2 on the clean-cart, Dundee. And the box looks great! I guess mine was once that clean, of course that would have been
before I acquired it . . . . |

Re: Tail-gate ; Rattle no more
Thanks. That pic was pretty much out of the box new. Cart was/is never that clean again. It has to work for it's keep.
