Default paint additive question

For you guys who have painted their plastic bodies, do you use any kind of additive to help with flexibility since it is going on plastic? I have used Bulldog adhesion promoter for other projects but mainly where I was clearing over decals. This will be my first cart. Probably will use urethane basecoat clear coat system. On many of my other projects (not cars) I just use Acrylic Enamel but I also clear it even though it is not required. Joe

I havent sprayed the professional stuff, not in years anyway, but when I painted my G1 I did use adhesion promoter. Most folks here recommend the Krylon fusion as it is meant for plastic.

Thanks, I don't want to go the rattle can route. I believe they make something you can add to automotive paint to make it more flexible for plastic parts and panels found on cars. I am not sure about adhesion promoter. If you use it on the plastic body, once you prime it would be null and void as it would be under the primer. I guess it isn't really an adhesion concern but more of a flexing and possibly cracking of the top coats I am curious about. I know from browsing that a lot of guys have painted their carts. Curious as to what they used, if anything, and how they have held up. Come on painters, please chime in and share.

You're going to spend a lot of money. I painted my last one with Rustoleum farm equipment enamel. I thinned it, added enamel hardener, and sprayed it. I then waited about 60 days and buffed it out. That's me, just throwing it out there. One more thing, I used Bulldog adhesion promoter before priming with cheap 2K primer.

Thanks Big Block. That turned out very nice. Seems to have really come around with the buffing. I don't plan on spending a ton. Won't be using HOK or anything crazy like that. I have used a bunch of stuff from the Restoration Shop through TCP Global. Pretty reasonable and you can get it in quarts as opposed to some places where you can only get gallons.

I love the windshield on your cart. Did you make that? Also, could you tell me your wheel/tire combo size. I like the overall size and look of what you have. Last, I was thinking about a light like you have above your bumper. Did you make special mounts or reinforce it or just use the supplied brackets? Any issues with it shaking around? Thanks for the reply. Joe

The windshield is a Jakes sport windshield, and the tires are 215/35/12. As far as the LED headlamp, I used the mounts supplied, but modified them to fit directly to the Club Car DS frame horns. After adjustment, I used thread locker and epoxy to make sure it didn't move, so far, it hasn't. I also modified the bumper mounting bolts to move it out in front of the light. There's some good, cheap automotive grade paint out there if you look around. I had everything but the paint. Since red is so darned expensive, I experimented with the farm implement paint. It flowed out pretty good and buffed out great.
