Default bike engine questions

Would really like to build a car with a bike engine. I already have already purchased a custom sproket set up to work on the tranny input shaft. My problem is the later bike engines use "shaft" drive. How do you guy's deal with the shaft drive? Rifter? Anyone? Thanks Dave

Rifter runs a chain drive. Haven't seen anyone use a shaft drive. Lots of late model bikes are still chain drive. The cruisers are ussually the ones with shafts. Do you already have a donor bike? Check out sport models.

Thanks DS...Found a Honda V65 VF1100 on local craigs list, but he said wire harness was cut up. Would like to find a wrecked bike, knowing it runs with all the wire harness. If I'm going to do it, I want the biggest "CC" engine I can find. The madness continues. Dave

Do it Dave.I believe the Hyabusa engine runs a drive sprocket on the left side .That would give you 1300 cc's and about 180 horses I believe. We have a guy at work with one pumping out 215 hp and it revs to no end. That would be great.Definately get the whole bike.As many stunt riders as they have around, there are bound to be some out there somewhere. They have busa motors inthe stunt show cars at Disney studios and they go through a set of tires in two shows. They are bad to the bone and not much bigger than a cart.I'll be watching for this one.

The Tomahawk is the largest cc bike I know of..... I'm not sure of its drive train though.

Brakes might be of great concern as well!

Man those cars are something else, I saw a program on tv about those and could hardly believe the things the got those cars to do. It's a must see for any motor head

The cars were custom built in France by some guy out in the sticks that has his own machine shop. The motors are connected to a custom transaxle that has c/v axles and disc brakes.I believe the transaxle is forward/reverse only and they use the 1-4 in the busa gearbox. It is set up to where they have 4 forward speeds and 4 reverse speeds. You turn the shifter handle 180* and it is in reverse.I had to go work on a forklift in there one day and got to talk to the head stunt guy. They were training some new drivers and I got stuck in the back.I had to wait till they were done before I could get my truck out of the show area.He told me that if they had all six gears and you could take it out on the freeway, there wouldn't be hardly anything that could touch them. They are race cars basically. They rag the crap of them though.I would love to have a set up like that in a cart.

God, You guy's are trying to "KILL ME", both HP and Dollars Picked up a 83 Honda 650 knighthawk (75 hp @9K) from my fiances son (for free), it was left in a shed at the house he bought. Several problems, no key's,hasn't been run in 10 years and shaft drive! Started some work, hp wash, tear down, oil and filter change,"maybe I should say sludge",pulled the plug's and tried to jump start,NO GO, pushed it around in high gear and engine is turning over (whew), pulled and dissasembled, the starter, cleand comm and brushes and tested and reinstalled. Really don't want to buy a ignition switch and gas cap set (best price found 155.00) and still not know if it runs. Cleaned petcock ,cant drain tank because of locking cap. Clutch master cylinder is bad, so don't even know if clutch will work. Got to tell ya, since not building a cart right now, this is fun. May end up (if I can get it running) driving it this summer, holding it for a cart build or sell it for another project. Well see if I can even get it running! Gotta Go...Steaks on the Q...Later Dave
