Removable Top???
Hey guys. I've got a 98 EZ-GO Workhorse and it doesn't have a top. My buddy and I sorta own it together...long story for another day. Problem is we disagree on putting a top on it. When we first got it I said we need to put a top on it and he said he didn't. A couple of weeks later while running down some trails we came across a tree laying over which we wouldn't have made under if we had the top on. He said, "See, if we had a top we couldn't do that." Yesterday we were riding around and a summer storm popped up leaving us riding through the rain for a good 30 or 40 minutes. I said, "see if we had a top we wouldn't have this problem." I'd like to compromise and get a top rigged up that can easily be taken off and not be a pain to do so. I've never really looked at how the tops are mounted so I don't know if taking them off and on is a pain. Any ideas or past experiences that could help me out?

Re: Removable Top???
You could use a umbrella Like a table one. Just pull it out and toss it on back when you dont need.

Re: Removable Top???
You could make one. Make your roof mounting brackets of a larger size steel tubing than your existing top. Modify the new front bracket to be straight up and down (vertical).
Then you can size and cut your existing top supports to fit you new mounts. Drill holes for removable pins...or Install a top. Cut it off leaving about a 12" mounting posts. Find some tubing that will fit over the posts. (larger) Install leaving room for a coupling area between the posts and the top. Basically you are putting sleeve around your cut top supports. Weld or screw the bottom secure and place removable pins in the top half. The front widshield slopes a little, thats the only problem I foresee. |

Re: Removable Top???
An afterthought...Weld brackets on the posts and put on some lights, it won't look as funny. It'll hide the posts.

Re: Removable Top???
I guess I'm saying I want the option of having a top. Summers around here in the sun can reach over 100. Yes you're moving so it's not that bad with the breeze but the sun is still beating down on ya. And I like to whole idea on putting a radio and speakers on it too. We'll see
