Default Making a hitch for an 87 Marathon

Has anyone seen any rear tow hitches on the 80's model Marathons? I've not seen any bolt on ones for sale and I'm not sure how much weight that rear bumper would be able to hold. Since I'll only be towing a small lawn trailer, I'm looking at welding a hitch receiver to the bumper and rigging up some brackets for it
Any other ideas?

i donno if i have any pics of the hitch on mine or not so i will explain it .... since i have a rear seat on mine means i have a rear foot platform and all we did is went to walmart or where ever and bought a receiver hitch and then went to the weld shop and found a piece of square tube that it fit in and drilled a hole thru it to put a pin thru the hitch and the tube.... then we took off the platform and cut out enff of the frame of the step and welded in the receiver tube ..... wa la a hitch.... i have a single place cart/mower trailer and on my elec marathon i have pulled a cart up town and back with my cart.... thats how we did it anyway.... i don't for see making a bracket that you could bolt on to the side of the cargo area very hard and just use a piece of square steel to make the receiver

IMO, the cart will not be able to pull something that is too much for that bumper. Go for it.

I bolted a right angle piece of steel to the back bumper on mine. The ball goes into the flat part on the top. It is strong enough to tow a 4X8 foot trailer loaded with wood!

I'm thinking of going with the receiver hitch idea. I like being able to take it off when I'm not towing. I'll post some pictures next week after I'm finished.

You will know if you got too much on the rear bumper you hit a bump and the front end starts to go up, next time i haul something with a cart im going with the old tractor saying "hitch it low keep her slow".

Hopefully I'll have that problem even without towing. I'm also doing a complete motor rebuild.

COOL! If you need any help with the top end of the motor rebuild, feel free to shoot me a PM. I have a helpful document and pics of my rebuild which may help. Just let me know!
