the new project-Suicide cart

Hey everyone, i asked a few questions on here a while ago, but now that i have a better idea of where im going with this golf cart, i decided to make a new thread. This cart is going to be done on the cheap, with more tme and effort put into it than money. heres what weve got so far:
1986 Yamaha XJ 750cc shaft drive engine- $100
7 1/4" differential-free from an old plymouth duster
Old golf cart-free

Now for a few questions, i designed a rough drawing of what i intend on doing with the frame for the cart. Im assuming that the wheelbase will be a bit more stretched than this too. For the rear suspension i was hoping to find some cheap coil-overs or spirngs and make a 4-link suspension or something similar. could you tell me what you think, and if theres anything that you would change in the design.
At this point i also dont know what im going to do for the front suspension..i think itd be pretty cool to retrofit the front spindles from the duster and put them on the cart, so that itd have 11" disc brakes in the front..

Sell the G3 They are kinda rare and pretty cool. Shame to chop it up for something that aint gonna run.......

That is the first one of those carts I have ever seen, ever!
There's a lot of possible design problems I see. It looks like you don't have room for that drive system unless you stretch it behind the seat and seperate the body. The rear axle will need to be cut or it will stick out too far. If you don't use a drive shaft the motor needs to float with the suspension. You'll need to raise it and lower the motor mounts for engine clearance to the seats.
You may want to clean up the cart and sell that one, buy an old columia or harley. They are more common and have a very heavy and strong frame, They are also larger. That is really too small for what you want to do. Good Luck with it...

It is a G3, Yamaha also made a slightly bigger G5. We had 1. It was a zippy little 2 stoker

Thanks for the compliments..As far as the cart goes im going to keep it, it cant be worth that much, i mean we got it for free. I think its unqueness will only make it more interesting when its done..and believe me, itll run.
Im probably going to have to stretch the frame from the passanger compartment back to accomadate the suspension. Im definatley going to keep the driveshaft setup as opposed to a chain drive; It seems like a simpler drive setup to me (with only a background in cars) plus i already have all the parts for it.
Im hoping to go back home this weekend and get that XJ750cc running (it cranks, over i just rebuilt the carbs, it has spark) I might also start tearing down the cart to see where to cut it up. Ill try and keep everyone posted, im sure ill have more questions as i get into this.

I love those carts. I've seen a couple of them (usually in much worse shape), and I think it would be an awesome project. I can also see where scottyb is coming from, and hating to see a great specimen like that one cut up for this. He's also been here a long time, and seen many a project fail, so he was speaking from past experience with people having high hopes for their "conversions" and falling short. Hopefully that will NOT be the case here, if you do proceed.

If you have the "fab" skills, I'd say go for it You really can't get any body parts for the G3's or G5's either. The only things you can get are for the engine's and trany's, they were the same as the standard golf carts. My take would to "cut" the top off (it's really short on a G3 anyway) at a point were you'd have a 1/2 windsheild. The rear uprites could be used to create a killer roll bar. I've seen one done to a Damaged G5 and it was fantastic looking. This will take alot of work, but when finished.....one of a kind! Good luck, Dave
