What size tubing for a golf cart roll cage?
I'm about to buy a tubing bender and am trying to decide on which size die to buy. Would 1.5" or 1 5/8" tubing look better for a golf cart roll cage? I'm leaning towards 1.5 x .095 wall, is that what we all using these days?
Does the bend radius much matter? The one I'm looking at is 7". Basically trying to decided between the JD2 or this bender on ebay. The JD2 dies seems over priced for me. $295 for the bender, plus the stand, plus $280 for the die I need. The ebay bender comes with a die for $299. I think I like how it bends vertically too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-1-2...mZ160362866999 |

Wow nice cart Sundownshifter!
Thanks Mike and SDS. 1.5" tubing die it is then. Oh how it will be so nice not having to think about kinking pipe. |

Re: What size tubing for a golf cart roll cage?
I used 1 1/4" SCH 40 pipe which measures 1.66" OD. The wall thinkness of pipe is overkill IMO. The other thing is even though I was bending on a pipe bender, you have to really work it to keep from kinking.
My buddy wanted a roll cage for his Blazer so we built one out of 2" SCH 40 pipe. It looks great but to make a bend without kinks, we had to bend in many stages little at a time. Then move slightly out of the radius and bend some more. You get sore arms very quickly this way. |

Hey Mike do you use DOM tubing? I'm having trouble finding it locally but one place here can order it and have it in 10 days. I bought some from them for $2.50/ft delivered to my shop.

My Yamaha has 1 1/4 but with alot of bracing. The Dragster is 1 3/4 DOM .134 wall, 2010 NHRA rules.
