98 Ez GO TXT DCS Motor Upgrade
I am rebuilding an EZGO DCS for my son. What motor would you recomend to increase the speed to between 15 an 20 mph. I will be putting a 5" lift kit and new wheels on it. It does have a rear seat on it also. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks Brian |

Re: 98 Ez GO TXT DCS Motor Upgrade
I just built a 99 EZGO DCS , I put a 5 inch lift,22 inch tires, racks, cargo box, so the weight was much more. It wouldn't do much with the stock motor or controller. The controller would shut it down so I put in a D+D 170-502-0001 torque/11.5 hp motor with a 500 amp 5021-ts controller which can put out 800 amps, 4 gauge wires and a MZJ 400 solenoid. Its a beast and goes 22 mph also

How much does that motor and controller upgrade cost. I have a 2006 DCS with 2009 batteries with a lift and 22's but goes slow.

You don't need to change the motor. A controller, solenoid kit and a cable set will get you 20 mph with the stock DCS motor.

Re: 98 Ez GO TXT DCS Motor Upgrade
Some DCS carts did get upgraded to series. But DCS done right can give good performance and service. One of the most important improvements on a DCS cart along with an Alltrax DCS controller is a digital voltmeter to monitor the deadly low voltage situations ....

Quote:
Any stock Controller is engineered for the stock tire and load and not much more... when you upsize the tires or add seating always count on upgrading the controller. Often the stock motor will be okay... I usually use a 400a controller and 200/800a Solenoid with 4g cables to upgrade that cart. It will go up to 20mph with that installed.
