custom top supports
Does anyone make/sell custom top supports? I would like to shorten the overall height of the top by 3". I would also like to keep the factory look (black square tubing -- 2000.5 cc). Thanks.

How about filling out some of the blanks on your profile page so we'll know what state you live in and other details that might help people help you in the area you reside in. Just a thought.

SpoiledRotten - I fixed it. I'm new to this stuff. I've been reading a long time but rarely post anything. This is a great site; I've learned a lot of interesting things here. Thanks
sms-shop - Thanks for the reply and I may get back to you. I'm going to look closer to home. Shipping from NC may be more than its worth. I'm wanting the same look just 3" shorter. I'm looking at buying a toyhauler and need the cart to fit under the bunks. |

Re: custom top supports
I have an idea for you that I thought about doing myself, cut the frames in the straight run sectionsand cut off what you want, then take some aluminum stock that will fit inside the square tubing and drill 1/4 inch holes through it and bolt it back together. This will also make it easier to remove the top.

Re: custom top supports
I just went thru this on my Marathon this weekend. After installing a 3" lift kit & a safari rack on the roof, my cart was like an inch or two too tall to get in the garage. So I cut the front down 3" & the back down 2". On the front, I cut the 3" out of the middle, ground off the powdercoat about an inch or two from the cuts, drilled 4 holes for plug welds, made plugs out of mild steel similar to golfcarfixer's suggestion, then welded up the holes & seams. I'm no pro at welding, so I ground off all the extra splatter & it's ready for paint. The whole process took me maybe 2 hrs. Now the roof has a very slight rake forward to it, the front is maybe 3/4" lower than the rear. And now it all fits in the garage again. Hope to get some pics of it all soon.
I believe I saw a post from Monkey-1 saying he had chopped his windshield frame a couple inches & welded it all back up. |

For purely aesthetic reasons I have been pondering fabricating a new look top set up for my CC. I really don't like the "Garden Shed on wheels" look at all and I want to go with a sleeker appearance but I have a quick question; How is the clearance for passenger and driver when cutting 3" out of the overall height ? I would hate for someone to smack their noggin due to the reduced headroom. Thanks for your thoughts, Chris |
