Cutting Expanded Sheet Metal
Whats the best way to cut #13, 1/2" expanded sheet metal? I need to make long straight cuts in 4x8 sheets. I bought a metal cutting circular saw and thought it would be perfect, but the 13ga metal is to thin for this saw apparently because it mangles the stuff and gets caught up in it.
How about using a regular wood working circular saw with a 7" metal cut off wheel that has same RPM rating of the saw and arbor size? |

Re: Cutting Expanded Sheet Metal
The best thing would be to find a local metal shop and have it sheared. It would be well worth the money!

Re: Cutting Expanded Sheet Metal
Borrow a plasma, and use a straight edge.
Most metal fab and even many sales shops will have a shear, for a nominal fee, they should make the cuts for you. |

Re: Cutting Expanded Sheet Metal
That was my first thought, use a piece of flat stock next to your cut to keep it's shape. The second would be as wrenflyer and Gummi Bear said, have a sheet metal shop shear it.

Re: Cutting Expanded Sheet Metal
Clamp on edge of table with 2x4.
Set saw with metal blade on 2x4. set depth of cut so blade barley goes through mesh and have at it. The low angle of attack will minimize the deformation. |

TIP: I used to buy the cheapo wheels from Harbour Frieght by the ten pack because they were cheap and I went through so many. A friend bought me some "Sait" brand wheels as a birthday present joke. They last 5 times longer than the HF wheel and in the long run cheaper. Try a higher quality wheel and see if you get more life out of it. |
