Default Milling Machine

Anyone want to share pictures of what you have made on a milling machine?

I had my eye on this old industrial milling machine but I doubt it runs. I would need a phase converter too but thats nothing. Does anybody know what the digital box is for looks like it controls the X and Y axis? That is one beastly looking machine. Is it a good brand, parts still available, price decent?

One thing you have to be careful about is most industrial machines are three phase. Most homes are not wired for that and it is expensive to get a converter.
Check out grizzly.com you may be able to do everything you want to do with a smaller one, and take up less room.
CNCzone has lots of info on manual machines too.

Extreme... that is just a DRO. (Digital read out). It doesn't control the Mill. If you want to buy a mill that has good parts availablity find a bridgeprt mill. If you want CNC its going to cost you some money...as far as converting an older manual mil to CNC you can find "older" CNC mills that need a little TLC cheaper than you can convert one. A lot of shops will just sell the old CNC mill because they get wore out and its sometimes cheaper just to buy a new CNC mill than it is to repair them. They are perfectly fine for a regular joe its just they can't use it for the jobs they are doing...it may not have tight enough tolerances for the work they are doing......Thenewguy can give you more details, He runs a Machine shop.

I bought a brigdeport with a J2 head (I beleive thats what it was)...I was going to convert it to CNC then found out I could have gotten a good used Brigdeport Boss (CNC) for what it cost to buy the manual bridgeport then convert it. Then you gotta learn 3D CAD and how to create machine code....not something you can just buy the thing and start making parts.

I did all of this on a manual mill. All the block work plus the all the tube notching. Plus a lot more.

scotty b! who you calling old?

I would go for the B/Port also. I know you can parts for that one. A good t/Mill that old is hard to come by. But you should be able to still by parts. I have a belt driven B/Port that goes back to WW2. I had it completely restored in 1998.

Shut up scotty b. I can hear you laughing from here. I'm not from WW2. My mill is.
