I am going to attempt this one myself. I plan to take some 3/4" plywood and cut it to the shape of the cowl opening then make a matching piece and an additional spacer in the same shape. I will then put the spacer on the back side of on panel and lay my sheet metal on top and sandwich it between the 2 3/4" plywood panels then take my hammer and start "persuading" the metal to change form. I will then take an cut for my guages and radio etc before painting. This will be my first attempt at something this big but should be fun. I will take lots of pics I hope to do a how to on this. I just need to finish up my body work on the rest of the cart first.

Hope this helps.

Arin

I like that idea. If you do that please pm me & post pics. I was thinking of just cutting a piece of wood and painting it to fit in the cowl.

Why not make a templet out of cardboard, transfer to diamond-tread, cut to fit and go to hardware store and buy a piano-hinge and small latch? GOOD LUCK!

Been there done it and it looks great
Seriously, I really did do the exact same thing, a large glove box on the right and a smaller one on the left with the center section fixed but matching. I also installed a cigar lighter / phone charger outlet, headlamp switch and repositioned the ignition. I did this for a customer and he loves it. On my own cart I plan to do the same thing but with the addition of a fuel gauge and tach and I also intend to paint the diamond plate in black satin finish/clear coated for a more sinister appearance.
Total cost for the material was just $26.00 and I would estimate around 2hrs labour to mark, cut and install.

Chris.

Chris.
Addendum; No need for a template on my customers 01 CC. Remove the cowl support frame, place the Dplate in the area and mark with a sharpie. Cut the plate and file to adjust. For the steering column section, cut a piece of stiff cardboard oversize, cut out the column hole, mark around with the sharpie and then cut to size. Transfer to Dplate and repeat.
Hope that helps,

Chris.

That's just too cool Ron.Also Lexan works really good for flat plates/guage panels like that.It is easy to cut and sand.I sand the front in one direction and paint the back whatever color i want it to be.Armor-all the front after you finish and it looks like brushed aluminum (painted silver/gray of course). You can get old scraps from golf cart windshields, glass places etc.I have a couple of old winshields I have been using.Good luck.

NOTE..plexi glass cracks when you try to cut/drill it.Make sure you get lexan.
