Default Carpet gluing to plastic?

I am going to be working on a project where I want to carpet the inside of my roof on the cart. I plan on some leds going up there as well. I already have it figured out how I am going to do this but my question is, what to use to keep the carpet held up on the roof. I want it permenant and I dont want to worry about the carpet to start to fall down after a couple months. My buddy doesnt think that carpet spray glue will work. Its basically black out door carpet.
Any ideas of some tuff stuff I can get at lowes or homedepot that I can glue it up there and not have to worry about it?
Thanks

Is that going to be red shag carpet? Sorry... can't help myself some time. You may be able to use contact cement on both surfaces, allow them to get tacky like the directions state, and slap 'em together. Maybe a support screw at each corner and in the middle somewhere to help hold it. You probably wouldn't be able to pull them apart, even if you didn't like the results.

This is what my goal result will look like. It took a lot of thought cans to come up with this one I think it would look pretty trick at night. Plus it would make a nice dome light for at night.

Spoiled has it right, contact cement is what is
keeping the for mica on your kitchen counter top.
Most people have a problem setting the project.
Get help and only one thought can each while letting
the cement get tacky.

I hope the contact cement doesnt bleed thru the carpet. Id hate to glue it up there and see a bunch of spots where its glued. I guess since it is black that will help alot.
Only one thought can

Chevy

Take some sample carpet and maybe buy a small piece of plexy glass and tack them together and put it out in the sun like your cart would be, this way you can see the results before you possible ruin your top. No thought can

STOP ~ on Second thought can = don't put carpet on your golf cart roof Its ...... too Cheech & Chong-esk

How about you put one big light inside the roof and drill holes in the painted black lid to let the starlight out ????
Too early for thought cans....

I went to an upoulstrey shop and asked when I installed the carpet(from Europe) in the Mercedes, they called for most of the peices to be glued. That is some strong chit! Just like contact cement, spray both surfaces and wait till almost dry, then when you attach the peices....they better be straight Are those "white dots" lites? Cool

yeah the white dots will be leds. I have 100 of them so I am going to custom wire them together to make that design in the roof. The carpet isnt like house carpet more like black short outdoor stuff.
Ill do some test this weekend.

Its already done in my head and it looks bitchin
