Re: paint ?
The shine of any paint is the light reflecting off the
SMOOOTH surface of the paint. Wet sanding puts a lot of tiny grooves and diffuses the light. You put wax on it, now you get to take it off. Once the wax is gone you have a nice smooth surface to lay on another coat of color or clear coat it. |

You can't expect a nice shine after wetsanding. What grit did you use? |

Correct! You have to buff out the paint to bring back the shine. I use a 2000 grit paper to do the final wetsand and an electric buffer and some polishing compound. Made Rust-o-leum look like glass. Last edited by sak00; 08-15-2010 at 07:54 AM.. Reason: Added more |

Re: paint ?
I bought some polishing glaze at Oreilly's. They sell it in different "grits" so you can bring the shine back up gradually. Typically you wet sand your clear so there is no orange peel. This happens as you lay on layer after layer of material. 2 or 3 coats of base, 2 or 3 coats of clear. Wet sanding brings it back to a more uniform thickness. It makes it smooth. Use the polishing compound to get rid of the small scratches gradually. Use plenty of compound so you don't burn the clear. Bringing back the shine isnt hard if there is enough clear there. Good luck.
