Default monster cart

Ok here we go I got this plan in my head and think I am going to to do it on an old marathon. Thinking about making it a 6 seater which is no big deal. But here is the twist is to make it 6 inches or even 12 inches wider. I know this is going to be a lot of work on the body but a marathon not so hard basically going to cut the frame and body down the middle and weld in a spacer for the body but the frame will get all new cross members. The front axle will get widened as will the rear axle tubes and the shafts. The hardest part id the axles 2 ways to do them got a buddy at a machine shop or simply cut the shafts and lengthen them with some thick walled pipe. I know this sounds cheesy but with no more power than we are talking I think it is possible. I know this sounds a little over the top but I think it would make a cool looking cart. And defiantly 1 of a kind

The only concern i see is,You might want to have your buddy make some new axles for the rear. The stock ones are kinda limited already, now by making them longer(approx. 6" each) they are going to flex more. Also they are really only recommended for a 22" tire in stock form, now add in the width and extra weight.I would look into a set of custom shafts, made from a good grade cold-roll steel-shaft and have the splines machined.Just adding my input,The rest sounds cool,Go for it.Hope this helps

I was thinking of doing the same thing one day. Only thing i was going to do different was a independent front and rear with a chain drive rear using a sport bike motor. You can use porsche cv axles. There are a few companies out there that make all that stuff for mini sand rails.

You could get an independent rear from a quad(Polaris,Yamaha,Etc..)They mount very simple and you could make up new axles using the donor-axles as a start.

The funny thing is that the golf cart is the first VW i ever owned, the garage is full of classic muscle and a big dog mastiff, and yes the power to weight ratio is close

if your gonna make it like 6" wider then you are better off to go with like a S10 rear end because it would be about the right lenght.

If you are going to make it 6" wider why not go with a set of 3 inch wheel spacers ? Add your frame width to the outsides of the rails, & make the body change.... I'm sorry, is that too easy

My workhorse is 6 inches wider than stock with a Strech LT in front and 3 inch spacers in the rear....
