Depends on the cart I would think. A off road cart ant going to benifit much from one. Some of the road cart guy's may want them though!
Some of the old Marothones had rear sway bars from the factory installed for body roll. |

Can you post a pic of what you're talking about? I'm using the Jakes LT and I'm curious. Thanks

Re: Front Sway Bar for Jakes LT Suspension
Just my thinking on this as a street truck guy. See the hotrod post for pictures of my 71 Chevy truck.
A lifted cart needs to flex as much as possible and the down side of that is body roll for off roading. If your cart is lifted and you install a sway bar on front and on back you just lost your ablility to cross ditches and stuff while off roading. The pupose of the bars is to stiffen the frame and body roll up to a point that your wheels will kick up and loose traction when you try to go through a ditch. |

Re: Front Sway Bar for Jakes LT Suspension
It would seem like a rear bar might help for general use with the carts that have the single point cradle mounts. With my old G9 its a swing arm and two point, the cart is very stable but that gets you a rougher ride in the wild. In a newer cart it rolls, leans over I notice it for sure. Plus these gas carts push all the time due to way more weight on the rear, I'd much rather have it over steer than under on the trail in dirt. I even run around double the pressure in the rear as front and sometimes it will slide the rear out, with a fixed swingarm. I am really thinking I need a 3 link or something when I move to a newer cart. I ride side hills and lot of tight trails where it matters.

Re: Front Sway Bar for Jakes LT Suspension
The rear bar would help to some degree but with a front and back bar I think it would hurt you more than help. Just make sure the rear bar is smaller than the front ones if you install them both.
Again this is form the street use in my truck I have learned this. |

If we were building a conventional cart ...then I would agree with you ..... But since we are building our own rear suspension that will allow the rear straight axle to rotate from the cross member we will mount to the chassis at mid point then we will have the ability to let the front Independent arms move one way and the rear to move or rotate the other direction...... At which time the chassis has to be as strong as you can make it and then only the suspension will work like it should..... And all of this on a Sparky with a 35 HP motor.... Of course when you have a coilover suspension on the front and Rear.... you will need a Anti-sway bar on the front to prevent Chassis roll in the front..... more so in the front and not the rear....because the rear has a Wheel Rate that is much higher then the front and this will resist the Chassis's desire to roll.........(just because you want to be able to carry some weight in the back as well so you will have stiffer springs on the rear which will speed up the transfer of weight). So a Roll bar on the front will double the wheel rate or Spring rate ...but only when the chassis starts to roll ....and that is what will prevent the front from Diving and wanting to roll over while at a greater speed like 45-55 mph. At 25 mph it's not much of a concern ....but when you start going faster... then the suspension becomes a important part of the vehicle ability to prevent Roll over when changing lanes. KMP259 |
