Default Roof fabrication

I've got a '89 Marathon with a giant Moon Roof. ( The center of the roof is gone and all that remains is the outer edge of plastic where it joins the frame. )

It looks like I could put a sheet of anything of proper thickness between the outer channel & tube, but might need additional supports to prevent sag in center.

Has anyone ever tried this and if so, were you happy with the results..?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

My CC had a hole just not as big as you are describing, I squared out the hole and then pre-drilled some plexy glass and then pop rivet it in place. This is the only pic I could find at the moment showing, just and idea for you to think about or work with.

Hey Losthusker,

If the photo uploaded, as I hope, you can see my Moon Roof is big enough for Skylab to fall thru. I really think I can insert a sheet of tin or plastic and proved some shade from this Texas sunshine. It looks do-able to me...

You could go to a heat and air place and have them break a piece of sheet metal that would fit over the frame. Just an idea!!!!!!!

Scooter, I would think a bimini top would be better then the metal, this hot summer sun plus the metal,,,,well your head would be like frying an egg on the sidewalk.

Hey Husker,

I figured that was why plastic was the original material chosen and wondered if my last two remaining braincells would suffer under a metal lid...

I looked at the canvas & lace photos and might give that a try. Not sure how canvas might fair against the Mesquites....

Still in the plan & design stage.

Thanks again.

Check with a boating shop or supplier, maybe they can supply the same type of material to make your own, or take it to a auto upholstery shop and maybe they can sew it up for you in the dimensions that would work for you.

I would get a canvas top and pleat it with three spars so it can be opened up like a nice soft top :).
