4x4 Electric carts?
Has anyone with an electric cart thought about converting their cart to a four wheel drive? Ive seen 4x4 four wheelers stuffed under gas carts but I haven't searched too hard for anyone who converted an electric cart to 4x4. Problems to work out:
1.) Weight, (would I need 12 six volt batteries or would I have half the run time with 2 motors on 1 set of 6 6volts... 2.) 2 motors or 1 motor+Transfer case+Drive shafts+axles. (Would I just be able to find a small enough 4 wheel drive with a working T Case[transfer case] but totaled/ruined engine & transmission. 3.) Would I want to add a transmission to add speed to the cart without going 48 or 72 volt conversion... 4.) Would I just be better off finding a four wheeler and fit underneath the cart? I have a 1971 AMF Harley Davidson that I can modify/ play around with. I think I might just be better off modifying my 1995 Jeep Cherokee instead of trying to have a 4x4 electric cart. I just think that with everyone going with the "Green Movement" (as I like to call it) that if I were to run an ELECTRIC off road, people would start thinking about electric power as an acceptable off road platform, Kinda make people think that electric isn't just the weeny greeny clown car that works on highway vehicles. but be a "pioneer" in the electric Off Highway Vehicle market. plus Ga$ is starting to make it too expensive to play. Electric to me seems to be the next step in 4x4 tech to me personally. This seemed to be the best place to brainstorm on this. I would personally like to keep it solid axles all around, since in the OHV, Independent Front or Rear Suspension is just kinda weak and prone to breaking if you go up in height or tire size, If It ever turns into a lucrative Business then I want to be as friendly to home mechanics as possible. A solid axle just makes sense because everyone is trying to swap in a solid and tear out the weak factory IFS "junk." I just want to know what everyone thinks, their opinion, advice, praise, ridicule, whatever... I HATE to admit this, but it will probably not happen, but I am going to try my hardest to make this dream a reality. But since I will start my first year of college this fall, it may be a ridiculous Idea. |

Re: 4x4 Electric carts?
I think if anything I will try to find a donor vehicle and do the single motor with transfer case and solid axles... Still dont know if I want to try to add a manual transmission into the mix...

Re: 4x4 Electric carts?
I like his setup, but I want to stay away from independent suspension if I can help it in the least...
