diy rear seat kit...can it be done
are there any plans on the net for building your own rear seat, frame and all?

that depends on what you want it built out of. steel is the cheapest, aluminum weighs less. i would guess around $100. that depends on where you get your steel. home depot and lowes have lost their minds with what they charge. also, you will need to weld a good bit of the metal so if you are not able or know someone then add that to the bill.

500$ is alot to spend on a seat kit, if i can build it for 200 i'd be happy.

A work in progress. Still got to get the cushion / covers and paint it. So for I kept the cost to $40.00

I am currently building one now. I bought 24' of 1x1x1/8" angle and 24" of 1x1 16ga. square tube. total cost 52$ I also had some 3/4" plywood left over from a project to make the seat bottom and back. I got the foam for free(got some couch cushions from Free cycle, but going to use some high density foam from some new servers that came in to work.) Only thing left to add is the material. I am picking that up next week. I wll have a running total soon I say I can get it done for under 100 bucks.
