Club Car gassers suspension front and rear
I own a golf cart rental business in a small beach community and as you can imagine the salt spray environment is causing serious problems on my equipment.I have lots of ideas about how to combat the problem or problems I should say but I would like to get some feedback from a few peers on this. I basically want to fab every part that is iron or steel from 6061 aluminum that is feeseable. The front suspension mostly and the rear axle housings ,get rid of the leaf springs and go with h/d coilovers. I've been told that the aluminum wouldn't be strong enough but considering the lightweight of the cc's I think it is very possible . Your opinions on this would be greatly appreciated . To clarify a little front suspension would be a-arm type similar to stretch kit and rear 3 link with all made from aluminum.

You can use aluminum for those parts as long as the wall thickness and tube diameter are sufficient for strength. I have seen some rock crawlers using hardened aluminum for suspension links, but they look huge! They are still strong and lighter than their steel counterparts. The aluminum used for this by Ballistic Fabrication is 7075 Aluminum. I have been told that welding aluminum is tricky as well. Good luck with your project!

Aluminum wont rust like steel but it will corrode and crack. Just depends which you would rather combat down the road.

This is true but I have found if you polish it with Mothers aluminum polish every few months it keeps the oxidation to a minimum. I have three carts that I bought six months ago that that had brand new steel rear seat kits and those kits are rotten now! This is an extremely harsh environment for any vehichle to be subjected to. Thanks for the input guys.

Unless you are driving them into the ocean then you are not in an enviroment any harsher than I am. I live on the Outer banks of NC. Cars here last only a few years unless you take care of them.
Wash them off before putting them away. wax the heck out of them and keep all the electrical components clean. I have a 56' custom Carolina boat that all electrical connections were installed with dialectic grease and then cleaned with a product called Woody Wax. Not trying to promote a product but since I did this to the boat 5 years ago I have not had an electrical problem since. Aluminum strong enough to handle the front ends of your cart are going to cost probably more than your cart and is not necessary. Just keep it washed off with warm water and spray with something like Ballestol or CRC 656 |

Have you tried POR 15?
Between that & dielectric grease in all the connectors; it should get you sealed up. |
