making a limo out of a 87 electric ds cart?
well i bought my first cart and i pretty much have it stripped down to nothing at this point cleaning and fixing it. my question is is it a wise idea to stretch a electric cart? some friends told me i would hate it because it wouldnt go anywhere and would bog it down terribly. im replacing all 6 batteries this spring with mid to high end batteries, sending the motor to plum quick to be redone and i just finished building a 6.5" lift for it and plan on running 22" tires. my only plans are really to be cruising around our town on paved roads and ocasinally a dirt road to shoot varmints. i also planned on running a bank of 3 deep cycle marine batteries under the front seats as well as a single 12v for lights, radio, ect....
so, am i on the right track or am i crazy for doing it? all the limos i see are usually gas, thats why i asked. thanks all matt |

Re: making a limo out of a 87 electric ds cart?
Your cart is a resistor coil drive system.
That system does not work well for modifications that require the cart to work harder than originally designed for. If you want to stretch and lift it with bigger tires you will need to convert it to a solid state speed control (ESC) system. Batteries must be conventional 6 or 8v golf cart batteries for proper operation. Welcome to BGW, I hope this helps. |

Re: making a limo out of a 87 electric ds cart?
how much does it cost to convert it to a ecs system? what would go bad with it? the solonids burn up? just trying to learn some stuff about this thing. i planned on buying 6 brand new decka or trojan batteries to power it, i just thought it would be a good idea to have a small reserve bank with a perko battery switch just in case i ever get stuck in a pinch.
is that ecs system hard to upgrade to? where would i find all the parts at a resonable price? |

I believe Mr. Scottyb sells a conversion kit for your cart!

Yes he does, I spoke with him recently and what a wonderful and helpful guy he is! He ran down all my options with me and was extremely helpful. Now I just have to decide how much money to part with to make it how I want it lol. Because of funding I may wait a year to stretch it.
