Default Grease gun clutch puller "dirty secret"

I have read about the grease gun clutch puller trick but never was forced to go that route. Below is how I ended up there pulling the drive clutch off a 1991 Club Car.

1. OEM clutch puller around 40 to 50 bucks. Och and many break them the first time they use them.

2. Soaked the clutch hole for 2 days with PB Blaster.

3. Tried the 2x4 and hammer way, No luck.

4. Waited a half an hour at a Golf cart shop to have them pull the clutch for 5 bucks. They could not locate the right puller.

5. Built an OEM type clutch puller for less than 5 bucks using harden bolts. No luck this clutch was not coming off without something breaking. (I have removed Pitman Arms, clutches and front end parts for 30 years and none of them was as hard to get off as this one.)

6. I read on this forum that if you pump the clutch hole full of grease and just insert a bolt in the puller hole the clutch will just pop off.

This was no jive. It took few tries to get all of the air pockets out of the grease but with almost no effort I tightening the bolt and the clutch popped right off.

Thank you Buggies Gone Wild you have saved the day.

It "Hydraulics" the clutch off.I've seen rear-end housings on Semis' that have split because there was gear-oil or RTV in the case-holes and the guys tried to run the bolts down without cleaning the holes out.You Can't Compress Liquids,No matter how hard you try, something will give!We use the same trick to get Pilot-Bearings out of car/truck crankshafts(fill the hole and jam the input-shaft in with a hammer, out comes the bearing!)

wonder if it will work on one with a tapered shaft adapter on it? I need to pull my clutch to tighten my alternator pully. It rattles and sounds like a rod about to find a way out. (kinda had me worried before i figured it out)

I had the clutch on my club car engine fight me for a week then i went to autozone and rented a puller, of course as soon as i pulled the puller out of the box to put it together i bumped the clutch with my elbow and the clutch fell off never even put the puller together.

If you get grease on a tapered shaft, make sure to clean it all off of both the shaft and clutch as the grease will allow the clutch to slide so easily that it will split when tightening it back on! Guess how I found this out! Use brake cleaner, or something similar to clean both the shaft and clutch before reassembling them! It must be a clean, oil free surface!

Ok we all know the grease trick works but I'll give you a less DIRTY SECRET. Go ask the wife for a few pieces of bread tear it up install it in the hole place the bolt in and start cranking. Again you may have to refill a few times but after you get it off you may want to make some dressing for dinner.LOL.

Which type of bread works best? French, Wheat, Sour Dough, or can I just use pancakes with maple syrup? If I am working over the Christmas Holidays will turkey dressing work as well?

Below is the recipe for the Holiday clutch removal tool:
1 3/4 cups Swanson® Chicken Broth (Regular, Natural Goodness® or Certified Organic)
Generous dash ground black pepper
1 stalk stalk celery, coarsely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1 small onion, coarsely chopped (about 1/4 cup)
4 cups Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing
Heat the broth, black pepper, celery and onion in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Add the stuffing and mix lightly.
Using a baby spoon robustly stuff the clutch hole with the turkey stuffing. You will want to take the handle of the wooden spoon you made the dressing with to pack the stuffing in.
Open one can of beer and then eat the rest of the stuffing.
