Default Thoughts on using 4-wheeler front suspension on my project. Input??

Hey guys I just picked up a G14/G16 4-seater, limo style golf-cart and I'm trying to make this a budget-build. I want to lift it between 6-8", and was wondering about maybe getting a friend who has done fabrication to use some stuff I have laying around to do the front end of the cart.

I have an entire 2001 Yamaha Blaster frame, A-arms, spindles, disc brakes, etc. Is it feasible to try to have someone with experience chop the front of the Blaster frame up some and weld it along with the rest of the suspension up in place?

Does anyone have pictures of this, if you have done this or something similar? I'm open to any advice, but I really want to have front disc brakes on this huge thing and I think this route, if feasible, would be more cost-effective than buying a lift-kit, and then buying a disc-brake kit for the front wheels.

Thanks,
Andrew

Sounds like a great Idea and in my opinion as long as your buddy has fab skills the only thing that stands in your way would be the vision but if you can think it it can be done!!

Lots of people have done this, me encluded. Works great except the stock blaster shocks are going to be a little weak. I had to move up to Rhino shocks.

Yeah sounds like a good idea to me as long as it isn't way too labor-intensive and costly :)

Good point. What about the A-arms... should they be solid enough or should I consider re-inforcing them somehow?

Thanks guys!

The only problem you might have is, the 2001 Yamaha Blaster front end is supporting a weight of maybe about 500-lbs with the Blaster and the rider, now your cart is going to be 1000-lbs and the riders, so your looking at 1500-lbs or more on a front end that was made for maybe 500-lbs, just some thing to think about

Yeah that's definitely a concern of mine. Maybe I should consider heavier-duty A-arms (shocks too, of course), welded into a custom center-section?

I was thinking the center-section of the frame is probably sturdy enough, but maybe just re-inforce the A-arms with some additional bracing, as long as the distance between the tires is enough for the cart. Just kinda hard to pass up using this Blaster stuff if it can be done, since I have brakes, spindles, and all for it.

been plenty of these i wouldn't be concerned with the weight. GaryDee used a blaster front. i used a forman front. I did redesign my bottom a-arms but they was gone when i got the donor. This is a picture of the front A-arms after i extended. I believe if i had to do over i would have split the middle and added to the center to keep my A-arms shorter. As for as strength the Blaster is made for jumping and hard landings. I have a 300ex frame i'm just waiting on a donor cart to start chopping on. I been married 16 years or so so i'm not scared of to much of anything

Thanks for the pics! So what's the reason you would want to keep the A-arms shorter? Just trying to understand so I make the right choices here :)

Lol... if you've been through that war, you're surely a brave fella! :)

GaryDee project:http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lifte...atv-style.html

My build:http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...hman-hawk.html

there is another build on here where the guy cut the center added to the middle

Why? it just makes sense to use the spindles brakes joints etc.
