Re: best way (design) to secure a charger from theft?
Hang it on the wall and pile so much useless crap in front of it that it is inaccessable without expending physical effort. My garage was broken into a couple of weeks ago. They took my mountain bike, my Dremel kit (left it out of the toolbox after using it) and my gas can. Cart and charger were left untouched.

Re: best way (design) to secure a charger from theft?
Go online and buy a $500 home security camera kit, complete with stand alone dvr. In November someone broke in my house. I installed the cameras and in January he broke in again. Thanks to my cameras he is rotting in jail with 10 counts of robbery and 2 counts of armed assault. Best $500 I ever spent.
But I would remove the top cover, screw the bottom to a heavy shelf, then reinstall the top. Looks clean and no easy way to take it. It's a shame we have to worry about these things.... |

You can get " tamperproof bolts " from your local hardware store. These either have a hex head that breaks off leaving a plain round head that has to be cut off, or you can get ones that need a special tool to remove.

or get a on-board charger.
Also, there is no need to spend $500 for a decent camera setup. Foscam Pan & Tilt IP cameras are feature rich and cost less than $100. Motion detection, record to a local computer or remote server, email alerts, 2-way audio, infrared, wifi, ethernet, etc. Controlling the camera & watching the video from hundreds of miles away on your cell phone is pretty sweet! -sj |

The Foscam will hardwire. It has ethernet a ethernet port. You can set it up to upload to a remote ftp server as well as a local hard drive. Once the video hits the cloud, there is nothing the thief can do about it. With just a local dvr, you run the risk of him/her stealing the dvr.

if you live in the country like i do uploading video to anywhere is a non starter. Im lucky if i can upload more than 3 pictures at a time. I used to tell people the only web i get is a spider web! It is better now a small company came in and installed a UHF bassed web service. It gets decent DL speeds but UP is not good. Also you said the camera was $100. I got 4 cameras and the DVR for $500 so we are in the ball park of each other. One just has to get what is right for their situation. |

Keys are in the trucks, carts, tractor, etc for my convenience... nobody elses.... Man's best friend up and downloads in any kind of weather, faster than any thief would suspect... basically it's just safer for a crook to go next door. P.S. My friend's business got burglarized and he put up 2 fake cameras... said those work good too. Said it was a lot cheaper than all that DVR stuff. Glad you are happy with your system Wiltz, don't let anybody tell you you gotta have this or that. The important thing is you have a security system, it's out where people can see you have it, and you're happy with it. |
