Need some electrical acessory help
Need some electrical accessory guidance!
New guy to carts here. I have a 91 ezzgo electric 36 v marathon. Right now i have a set of new batteries. First I'd like to add some head lights on a budget. Eventually I'd like to add a stereo and neons. Any ideas or recommendations for lights? Secondly is the a proper or better way to hook these up and if so how. I have heard guys that hook them up to two batteries, and I have heard guys getting a separate 12 v also. I would really appreciate any and all responses! |

Re: Need some electrical acessory help
The best way is with seperate 12 volt.
Easiest way is use 2 of the 6 volts of the pack. Cheapest lights go to Wal-Mart and buy a set of driving lights and a rear set of trailer lights. They both have good and bad with them Best way, u need another 12 volt charger to charge the battery. U need a way to turn everything off which is fine just more wiring. Easiest way it takes run time away from cart, you need to watch the 2 batteries that are used for out of balance in the pack. Have to wire some kind of off switch for everything which is for both ways. |

I would use a 36 to 12 volt reducer so u use all the batteries at once. Then I would goto a fuse box so you can then run all of your accesories from there. the walmart idea is a great one since you can get cheap running lights that will do the job. Of course you will need switched for them also to turn them on and off.

Re: Need some electrical acessory help
Both Andy and gatorclub are spot on.
I think gator hit the nail on the head though with his recommendation to get a converter. If you are asking these questions now, your surely going to want more later. For now you should get a converter and I know it is a pill to swallow the cost. If you plan eventually to evolve with a stereo and more lights you will want to think about an additional battery. The DC converters are great for keeping your battery pack balanced. Balancing your battery pack is a key to battery longevity. Once you start adding many accessories to your converter you are going to reduce your run time. You won't reduce it considerably, but you will reduce it. There are pros and cons to both. I would do one or the other vs. tapping off a set of two 6 volt batteries and unbalancing your pack. |

Re: Need some electrical acessory help
The thing about convertors is they are only good for so many amps. So if you go that route make sure it can handle everything OK.If you do the converter do a 36 to 12 volt so it runs off the whole pack.
