Default Which Switch?

I just got my wolo "Dixieland" horn in the mail yesterday, but I realized that while it may be cool, it probably isn't the best horn for every application. I will have to let people know when they tick me off, and playing music for them is not what I had in mind.

That being said, I would like to use one momentary horn switch and a horn A/B toggle to select between two horns, a standard and the musical. Googling what switch to use is just confusing me- can I make a 3 position switch work (Dixie, regular, off)? What amperage rating?

The wiring diagram the horn comes with shows a three prong toggle connected in this configuration, but I'll be darned if I can't convince myself which switch will work perfectly.

You need a SPDT momentary good for say 10 amps. On-Off-On. Push to one side for each horn.. Power supply wire goes to center, outer legs are for each horn..

Thank you!!!

I was looking for one that is not momentary. I would prefer it this way so that I can use the momentary push button already mounted in the dash for either horn, and switch from one to the other with a rocker or toggle as opposed to holding the switch up or down.

What do you recommend?

Just a plain SPDT will work as long as it is rated high enough. I would just replace the push button with a SPDT mom. Less fuss and fewer holes

Thank you, kgsc.

I'm still looking to stick with the momentary push button since I eventually plan to use the horn button on a new steering wheel for this. I understand that a momentary switch will solve my immediate needs, but there is something about flicking a toggle that does not feel like honking the horn.

I ordered three different switches (I always end up using surplus materials in some way, shape, or form). One is a rocker switch, one is a toggle, and one is a mini toggle (unsure if amperage rating but was cheap).

I went to Pep Boys, Advanced, and Radio Shack but none had one that matched the other switches in my dash.

hooked power to middle blades and horns to outer blades
but you could hook horn button to center and then select which horn to blow
