Camo pattern
I have seen some camo carts and even looked in on a thread where cardboard cut outs were used for the pattern ( really cool looking). If memory recalls, a base tan or green was used with a reed looking pattern sprayed on top. I Could not find it again though.
What I would like is thread of home painted camo patterns so I can choose one to copy (if that's ok) on cardboard and use for my top coat. If nothing else, see some more hunting buggies and get ideas! Really, hope there is not already a thread for this is so please point me there Thanks M |

Re: Camo pattern
Great looking!! I had used leaves for a pattern. before on a tree stand. I just did not know how it would look on a large falt surface. I really like how it looks on your cart though. Did you find a pattern for your leaves or use real leaves? I can see it taking a long time to apply. with different colors and leaves types. Let me in on your process if you have the time
Thanks |

Re: Camo pattern
The paint process was my wife's idea.
She downloaded leaf pictures from the internet and I cut them out so I had a few paper leaves. I then placed the paper leaf on heavy card stock and traced around it. Next, I cut out the leaf from the card stock. I discarded the part that looked like a leaf and kept the negative portion. I used these patterns for the paint process. For the paint, I used rustoleum ultra-flat camo paint(6 different colors) After the cart was primered, I just started spraying patches of different colored camo paint around the cart until it was mostly painted. I used more of the lighter colors for this step. Next came the leaf painting. I placed a leaf template on the cart and sprayed it with 3 colors. I sprayed the complete pattern with the lightest color, then darkest around the outside edge, the medium toward the center. Keep the template in place for all three colors. No need to let each one dry before painting the next. Since I couldn't hold the template completely still, or flat on the surface, you can see a double edge on many of the leaves. This gives it somewhat of a 3-D look. In a few areas, I just placed a small branch on the surface of the cart and sprayed over it to get a negative of it . I used about 1-1/2 cans of each color. |

Re: Camo pattern
here's mine. I honestly didn't spend much time doing mine for a number of reasons. One of the main ones was seeing if it was going to stick/stay (take a beating). I am surprised how well it has held up after a year (top included). I gave my buggy a quick sanding then wiped it down with alcohol.
I really like the first cart in your thread, great job it looks awesome. |

Re: Camo pattern
btw,
I just used fresh leaves off trees in my yard. I'll take a couple better picks for you tomorrow. The method I used was very simply, just place leaf down and spray over it. then shift slightly and spray with a different color. I repeated this with up to four colors. Good news, If I do have touch up the body it takes about 30seconds. Surprisingly like I mentioned, I haunt had too. I used the same spray cans as the above with a solid primer. |

Re: Camo pattern
labatt50 Nice looking cart.
I bought 60$ worth of rattlecans yesterday, 2 each camo color and primer. I hope our thread produces more camo pattern ideas. I really want to do the reed pattern. But like you having these huge oaks on my land gives unlimited patterns and easy greasy temmplates. I really hope my 95 Medalist looks half as good as yours when iam done. Did you remove the body? Where did u purchase your brush guard, i really like the look. I was thinking about removing my winshield too as really all it does is sqeak!!LOL One day finances permiting Ill buy one of those awesome roll cages from Outback Fabricators!! |

Here are a couple more pic's (closer view). I did not remove the body, I used blue painters tape (blue masking tape, easy peel) and some old sheets. I taped up things I didn't wanted painted and edges. In actuality, the prep took longer than painting. I gave it a quick sanding (mostly 500-600 grit) and cleaned it with denatured alcohol. for me this process was easiest and fit what I was looking for. I removed a lot of stuff as well to quiet it up too. My front end had a little "clunk" so I filled the joints with that green grease (tav outdoor stuff, I can't remember the name) and it did the trick. I actually just made the brush guard a week or two ago, thanks! In my build thread (transform a 36v TXT to a hunting vehicle) there is a few more pics of the process along with the the rear hitch receiver. Thanks again! hope it helps. Can't wait to see your buggy! |
