1st buggie build starting with 1974ish Club Car Caroche
Good afternoon all!
A coworker and myself are starting to build a 1974ish club car caroche that use to be battery and we are installing a Honda clone 6.5 hp engine. looking for some suggestions on engine and drive setup so we don't have to reinvent the wheel on our 1st build so thought I would reach out and see what you all have for input. Pictures would be a great help for some ideas... |

Husker, I personally don't have any suggestions on teh build, seeing as I'm one of the "sparky" guys.....HOWEVER........
CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Welcome to the site.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if I were in your shoes I would purchase a newer cart to do the conversion on. The old carts like you have are out of the parts system at 99.9% of the cart shops and dealer networks out there. They can be hard to find brake parts for, and some of the steering & suspension parts can be even harder to find. I'm not going to say it can't be done to the cart you have now, because it can. I am saying it will be cheaper in the long run to start with a gas cart with a blown engine as your first choice or a newer electric cart with a bad controller and no batteries as a second choice. My recommendation is due to parts availability alone and nothing more. The electric to gas conversion is difficult at best, but there are a couple of threads in the big block section you can look at. I hope you're up for a real challenge, you're going to have one! -Scott H. |

thanks guys.
I hear what your saying Scott and much appreciated. I am building this with a friend and he is my master mechanic and not to worried about it. we are not looking to do anything too fancy. motor is almost mounted and we are just trying to figure out the gear ratios for sprockets. Any suggestions?? or rear-end ratio is 6.5 to 1 |

If it were me, I'd swap the clone into a 1984-1996 Club Car Gas DS and just retrofit the Caroche body onto it for a unique look. But since you're on your way...good luck and post pics! We love pics.
