Default now it fits in a truck

Modified the rear footboard. Now it drives up the ramps without scraping, and I can close the gate.

That is an awesome modification! Should be super handy for the guys with rear seats, HOWEVER - you didn't just think you could post up a pic of that old squarebody and not give us some more info on it did you?

Don't see a lot of square body crew cabs around here, let alone a pre-79 truck. Looks all original on the outside - nice!

This one is a little rough, but not unsavable. Had 46k original when I sold the 454. The swap paid for itself iinthe first month in fuel savings. ( not kidding)

No doubt! Dad had an 85 1 ton and whether or not you were running it easy empty or hard loaded, it got 10 MPG. All the time. Which LS engine did you drop in?

I would have been OK with 10mpg. I was stuck at about 6.
I used a 2001 5.3 and kept the th400. Even with no od and the 373s I average about 14-15 with it.
I have a 4x4 square that is also 5.3 swapped.

Nice mileage numbers for no OD! The 3.73s are probably the biggest factor in that.

My dream truck is a 79 short bed 4x4. It'll be black and I'll run 31x10.50s on it. Nothing too extreme, just a nice beefy look from the larger tire. I'd like to go old school on it and drop in a built 350, but nowadays LS swaps are good too - maybe a 6.0 and a matching 4L80.

Ive been entertaining a different swap with the 4x4. Been looking at medium duty internationals for a chassis to set the square onto.
